The IDEAL model outlines five phases for organizational improvement: initiating, diagnosing, establishing, acting, and learning. An implementation of a new scheduling software failed to follow several aspects of the IDEAL model, including properly diagnosing needs, establishing a change plan, and learning from issues that arose. As a result, the software was delayed, training was insufficient, and problems were discovered late in the implementation.
