THE POWER OF INFORMATION AND
COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
(ICT)

3. Information and communication technology
(ICT) has revolutionized the way we
communicate, work, and live. It refers to the
technologies used to manage and transmit
information, including computers, software,
networks, and telecommunications.
ICT has transformed the business world,
making it easier for companies to
communicate with customers, suppliers, and
partners around the world. It has also had a
significant impact on education, healthcare,
and government services, enabling remote
learning, telemedicine, and e-government
initiatives.
4. The benefits of ICT are numerous and far-reaching. One of the most
significant advantages is increased efficiency and productivity, as ICT
allows for faster and more accurate processing of information. This can lead
to cost savings and improved customer service.
ICT also enables greater collaboration and knowledge sharing, both within
organizations and across borders. It can facilitate remote work and
telecommuting, reducing the need for physical office space and commuting
time. Additionally, ICT can improve access to education, healthcare, and
other essential services, particularly in rural or underserved areas.
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) can impact student
learning when teachers are digitally literate and understand how to integrate
it into curriculum.
Schools use a diverse set of ICT tools to communicate, create, disseminate,
store, and manage information.

6. Information and Communication Technology
(ICT) has become an essential part of our daily
lives. From smartphones to laptops, from the
internet to social media, we are constantly
connected to a digital world that is rapidly
evolving. The need for ICT has never been greater,
as it enables us to communicate, collaborate, and
access information like never before.
In addition to its personal benefits, ICT has also
transformed the way businesses operate. With the
use of advanced software and hardware,
companies can streamline their operations,
automate processes, and improve customer
service. This has led to increased productivity,
reduced costs, and enhanced competitiveness in
the global market.
7. In a world where technology is rapidly advancing, the need for Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) has become increasingly important. ICT has
revolutionized the way we communicate, access information, and collaborate
with others. It has also transformed entire industries, making them more efficient
and productive.
With the rise of artificial intelligence and automation, ICT has become even
more vital. It has the potential to change the way we work and live our lives.
Without ICT, businesses would struggle to keep up with their competitors and
individuals would be left behind in a rapidly changing world.
8. Digital culture and digital literacy: Computer technologies and other aspects of
digital culture have changed the ways people live, work, play, and learn,
impacting the construction and distribution of knowledge and power around the
world.(14) Graduates who are less familiar with digital culture are increasingly
at a disadvantage in the national and global economy. Digital literacy—the
skills of searching for, discerning, and producing information, as well as the
critical use of new media for full participation in society—has thus become an
important consideration for curriculum frameworks.
9. In many countries, digital literacy is being built through the incorporation of
information and communication technology (ICT) into schools. Some common
educational applications of ICT include:
One laptop per child: Less expensive laptops have been designed for use in
school on a 1:1 basis with features like lower power consumption, a low cost
operating system, and special re-programming and mesh network
functions.(42) Despite efforts to reduce costs, however, providing one laptop
per child may be too costly for some developing countries.
Tablets: Tablets are small personal computers with a touch screen, allowing
input without a keyboard or mouse. Inexpensive learning software (“apps”)
can be downloaded onto tablets, making them a versatile tool for learning. The
most effective apps develop higher order thinking skills and provide creative
options for students to express their understandings.
10. Interactive White Boards or Smart Boards: Interactive white boards allow
projected computer images to be displayed, manipulated, dragged, clicked, or
copied.(3) Simultaneously, handwritten notes can be taken on the board and
saved for later use. Interactive white boards are associated with whole-class
instruction rather than student-centred activities.(38) Student engagement is
generally higher when ICT is available for student use throughout the
classroom.
E-readers: E-readers are electronic devices that can hold hundreds of books in
digital form, and they are increasingly utilized in the delivery of reading
material.(19) Students—both skilled readers and reluctant readers—have had
positive responses to the use of e-readers for independent reading.(22) Features
of e-readers that can contribute to positive use include their portability and long
battery life, response to text, and the ability to define unknown words.(22)
Additionally, many classic book titles are in e-book form.
11. Information and Communication Technology is confronted by some
challenges which are characteristic of an emerging field. There are some of the
challenges, such as:
• Expensive ICT materials: The requisite materials for practical knowledge
of ICT, especially at the advanced level, are costly, such as computers,
projectors, Internet machines, etc.
• Highly technical and practical driven: It is technology-driven. It requires
a great deal of logic and analytical reasoning for in-depth understanding
and application.
12. • Underdevelopment: ICT is a global concept. Vape shop has an up-to-date
knowledge of the subject. There must be technological development
nationally at least well-established global information link on the subject.
Many nations are yet to attain this.
• Poor orientation about the concept: The first challenge in embracing ICT
as a field of study for students who have no prior orientation from their
foundation education is speedy assimilation.
• Intensions: Some persons use ICT for wrong purposes, such as cybercrime
and malicious programs that can cause severe damage to computers and
similar gadgets.
13. • Acceptability: The subject is yet to be fully embraced by all learning
institutions from the cradle globally. However, it is now compulsory at the
high school level in some countries. Unless there is a solid foundation and
love for the subject, compliance may still take time to attain in line with the
global millennial goals.
14. Conclusion
In conclusion, the significance of ICT in our lives cannot be overstated. It has
transformed the way we interact with each other, access information, and
conduct our daily lives. From businesses to education, healthcare, and
entertainment, ICT has impacted various sectors of society. It has enabled us to
connect with people from all over the world, breaking down geographical
barriers. Additionally, it has made it easier for individuals to access education
and training, allowing them to acquire new skills and knowledge. Moreover,
ICT has revolutionized the healthcare industry, making it possible for doctors
and medical professionals to diagnose and treat diseases remotely.
We must continue to embrace ICT and its potential to improve our lives. As we
move towards a more technologically advanced world, it is important to stay
informed and adapt to the changes brought about by ICT. We should also strive
to ensure that everyone has access to ICT, so that no one is left behind in this
digital age. Thank you for reading about the significance of ICT in our lives.
