YOUR
SPEAKING
VOICE

Tips for Adding Strength and
Authority to Your Voice
WHAT KIND OF VOICE DO YOU
  HAVE?
1. Do you whisper or boom?
2. Are you monotonous or
   melodious?
3. Is your voice a rain cloud or a
   rainbow?
4. Do you have mumblitis?
5. How well do you articulate?
Articulation - how distinctly you you formulate your
  words when you speak.
                 - includes both how you pronounce
individual words and how clearly you create speech
  sounds.

Pronunciation is the formation and utterance of words. It is
the product of correct sounds in the sequence of words.

Enunciation refers to the fullness and clarity of speech
 sounds.
Clear articulation requires 3 conditions:

1. The sound must be accurately formed.
2. The sound must be sufficiently
      supported by the breath.
3. The sound must be completely finished.
6. Do you trudge like a turtle or race like a rabbit?
7. Do you agitate or orchestrate?
Vocal variety is the way you use your voice to
  create interest, excitement, and emotional
  involvement.

An inflection is a raised pitched- a high note to add
emphasis to a word. A single change in inflection
may change the meaning of a sentence.

 Example:
She said she should sit . ( I did not say it.)
She said she should sit. ( True. I heard her say it.)
She said she should sit. ( No one else but she.)
She said she should sit. She must do it.)
She said she should sit. ( She must not stand.)

Ann and Andy's anniversary is in April.
Elizabeth's birthday is on the third
 Thursday of this month.
Four furious friends fought for the phone.
 Thirty-three thirsty, thundering
 thoroughbreds thumped Mr. Thurber on
 Thursday.
Rory the warrior and Roger the worrier
were reared wrongly in a rural brewery.
2 Y's U R.
                2 Y's U B.
                 I C U R.
               2 Y's 4 me!
Wow, race winners really want red wine
 right away!

The ruddy widow really wants ripe
watermelon and red roses when winter
 arrives.

I'll chew and chew until my jaws drop.
I wish you were a fish in my dish
If you can't can any candy can,
how many candy cans can a candy
   canner can
if he can can candy cans ?

The big black bug bit the big black bear,
but the big black bear bit the big black bug
 back!

I wish to wish the wish you wish to wish, but
if you wish the wish the witch wishes, I
won't wish the wish you wish to wish.
When the English tongue we speak
Why is break not rhymed with weak?
Won’t you tell me why it’s true
We say sew but also few?
And the maker of a verse
cannot rhyme his horse with worse.
Beard is not the same as heard
cord is different from word
Cow is cow and low is low
Shoe is never rhymed with foe
Think of hose and close and lose
And think of goose and yet of choose
Think of comb and tomb and bomb
Doll and roll and home and some
And since pay is rhymed with say
Why not paid with said I pray?
Think of blood and food and good
Mould is not pronounced like could
Why is it done but gone and lone?
Is there any reason known?
To sum it up it seems to me
That sounds and letters don’t agree.
