Explained about displacement and double displacement reaction.
Displacement reaction is a chemical reaction in which a more reactive element displaces a less reactive element from its compound.
In a double displacement reaction, two atoms or a group of atoms switch places to form new compounds.

2. IDENTIFY WHAT IS HAPPENING
A is displacing B from the compound BC
4. DISPLACEMENT REACTION
• Displacement reaction is a chemical reaction in which a more reactive
element displaces a less reactive element from its compound.
5. Why does the iron nail become brownish
in colour and the blue colour
of copper sulphate solution fades?
6. • When an iron nail is dipped in a solution of CuSO4, it displaces copper from
the Solution, which gets deposited or precipitated as a red or red-brown
residue. Also the blue colour of the solution gradually fades. So Fe displaces
Cu to form Iron Sulphate and Copper.
8. DOUBLE DISPLACEMENT REACTION
• A double-displacement reaction is a reaction in which the positive
and negative ions of two ionic compounds exchange places to form
two new compounds.’
• Example: Na2SO4 + BaCl2 → BaSO4 + 2NaCl
9. • Q1. AB+CD → CB+AD Shows which type of reaction?
• a) Addition
• b) Combination
• c) Displacement
• d) Double-displacement
• Ans. Option (d)
10. DISPLACEMENT REACTION
• In a displacement reaction, a more reactive
element replaces a less reactive element
from a compound.
• In a displacement reaction, one
displacement takes place.
• A + BX → AX + B
• Change in color takes place with no
precipitate forms.
DOUBLE DISPLACEMENT
REACTION
• In a double displacement reaction, two
atoms or a group of atoms switch places to
form new compounds.
• In a double displacement reaction, two
displacements take place to complete the
reaction.
• AB + CD → AC + BD
• Precipitate is formed.
11. • 2K+MgCl2→2KCl+Mg – Displacement reaction
• AgNO3+NaCl→AgCl+NaNO3 – Double displacement reaction

Q3. Which option denotes a double displacement reaction?
(a)A + B + C
(b) A + B → C
(c) AC + BD → AD + BC
(d) AC + B → AB + C
