Introduction
 Cooking is a universal Skill of humanity and
is intimately linked with culture and
language. This power point presentation
explains the advantages of using real-world
cooking , Technology-assisted language
learning. It outlines how the latest digital
technology can be used by learners over the
Internet to learn aspects of languages and
their associated cultures.
 How integrating cooking into the ELT
curriculum as an occasional, Multiple Models
of learning means of making meaning; TBLT
approach is concerned with the outcome of
tasks.
Cooking as a Language
Learning with Task Based
approach.
 Language Learning through Cooking,
develop students’ language (vocabulary)
through providing a task in various Digital
platforms (such as asking for directions) and
then using language to solve it.
 Here, as define by Prabu….” An activity which
required learners to arrive at on outcome from
given information through some process of
which allowed teachers to control and
regulate that process was regarded as Task” (
Prabhu, 1987,24)
 Examples: Preparing a Meal, Ordering a food
etc

What Does the App Do?
is a free app developed by a
research team at Newcastle
University, created for food and
language lovers
Choose a recipe, then the
user’s own smartphone or
tablet will speak to them in
the foreign language in their
own kitchen and talk them
through all of the stages of
cooking the recipe.
It will give them photos and
audios of all of the
ingredients and equipment
they need to collect and
then play them videos
explaining the cooking
processes
If the user can’t understand,
s/he just presses a button to
get a photo, audio, text, and
video showing them what to
do. Users can access
different levels of help to
support their language
learning.
Meaning ……(Task based )
This Task are language teaching activities are give chance to
learners or students to produce and understand
communicative messages.
 Learners have to use their own linguistic and nonlinguistic
resources to complete the task.
 Communicative Outcome: This kind of Tasks must involves some
sort of nonlinguistic outcome such as Problems in Making recipes
or memorizing the sequence of it.

At this stage the topic
introduced through some
activity in sequence:

2) Reading,
3) Prior knowledge
activation

Now world is moving towards more
Digitization , so many more YouTube
channels winch helps to everyone to
learn language along with cooking
too.
Gujrati recipes are much more wider in
the world of cooking learning, as we know
that Gujrati is not as much spoken by
people but still those who understand this
language this will helps you to polish the
native language.
We all know and aware about Online
courses on digital platform, but
nowadays interested people starts
the cooking course , which contains
the good anchoring with good
language skills and commands.
Here are lots of different possibilities for
bringing together two of your hobbies: food and
language. Here are just a few:
Communication always increase the
reasoning power and when we listen others
good commands on language, we are tend
to talk with this way of speaking and
learning language. So meetings, debates
and dinners are so important for learning
language.
Foreign or native language cookbooks and recipe
collections
Recipes and cookbooks are fun resources for practicing your reading skills in your target language. (And a practical way to
measure your level of comprehension… If your dish doesn’t turn out right you may have misunderstood the recipe!)

long memorization is
very important.

native language.
 The app speaks to you as you cook the recipe. Follow along step by step and

 Learn-by-doing! Associate new words with smells and tastes, and then best of
all you get to enjoy eating the delicious meal you’ve cooked.
 Movies and TV shows aren’t the only way to practice listening comprehension
in your target language!
How can ELT Teachers
use Cooking as a Task?
So, Integrating cooking into the ELT
curriculum as an occasional,
complementary activity offers
opportunities on many levels to ELT
teachers around the world.
Advantages of TBLT : The aim is help
learners to develop implicit knowledge
of the language that will enable them
to participate easily and naturally.
TBLT provides opportunities for
unplanned learning. Completing a real
world task allows the acquisition to
take place without any deliberate
intention on the part of the learner or
the teacher.
Conclusion
 So, this is the way using various approaches like
TASK BASED LEARNING in ELT where we can
learn the various language commands through
cooking or any routine things from day to day life.
 Every thing or act always give an opportunity to
learn, its all depends on you that how you can grab
the opportunity with little moments of life.
 ELT is a specific subject which helps to learn
language along with other basic activates, shifting
it towards digitalization gives a wings to this
subject to more modernization.
 Language is an life long learning process, taking it
as serious note, various apps, websites, YouTube
channels helps to learn more, especially in
academic this helps as task in extra curricular
activity.
