2. Researcher training (PhDs)
•We see our PhD fellows primarily as researchers.
We do not want to reorganise our doctoral traning
to be administered by student affairs.
•PhD fellows are professional contributors to new
knowledge and are more than students.
•Group B should be better integrated into
university democracy.
•Teaching experience is imporant and four year
stipends allow this.
•Networks, researcher schools and a maximum of
six months from submitting to defending a
dissertation.
6. UiB - utvikling av samfunnet gjennom kunnskap og visdom
3. Education
• Quality in all aspects
• Breadth and diversity
• Stronger links between learning goals, content, form
and assessment
• Stronger links between research and teaching;
student-active research
• Evaluations, rewarding good teaching.
• High quality teaching leadership and coordination,
valuing teaching.
• Dannelse – a broad, liberal arts approach
• Physical learning spaces, student organisations,
safety, more student housing
• Graduation ceremonies for BA and MA, not just PhD
• Life-long learning
7. UiB - utvikling av samfunnet gjennom kunnskap og visdom
4. Outreach and communication
• UiB as a scholarly and cultural
powerhouse in Bergen
• Open access and open data as a
basic principle
• Strengthen alumni relations and
contact with business and cultural
sector
• MA theses and good BA theses
should be publically available, and
popularisation of research should be
part of courses including student-
active research
