9. Water Quality
Out of the existing issues and campaigns run by the SAS (Surfers Against Sewage) I have chosen to focus
on water quality. My idea is to create a cartoon image of a surfer wearing a gas mask – the
inspiration came from one of the earlier images of the SAS when they first started up the
organization – and a hazmat suit, whether that’s a wetsuit with a hazardous symbol on it or a
complete industrial hazmat suit. I plan for the water they are about to surf in to, to look dirty and
unsanitary to make my point; the overall image is to be perceived as dark and negative, the purpose
of this idea is to educate the audience on potential risks whilst enthusing them to join the
movement, I plan to include a statement or point that’ll stick in their heads and encourage them to
check out the SAS and their other campaigns. I’m hoping that this poster will affect people and
encourage them to change their behavior and attitude towards littering and the amount of sewage
and other substances being pumped in to the UK waters, I also hope it will encourage more people
to sign up and become a member of the SAS which will increase funding and possibly bring in more
volunteers.
11. Climate Change
Out of the existing issues and campaigns run by the SAS (Surfers Against Sewage) I have decided to
focus on climate change. My idea is to create quite a negative image that has a shock factor that
should encourage viewers to try and help fix things, the idea was to create a side by side
comparison poster that shows a two images of the same place side by side, one affected by climate
change, one how it is now; the inspiration came from a spot the difference cartoon of a beach. The
purpose of this poster is to raise awareness and inform the general public of the problems and
effects that climate change can have, it should also encourage viewers to join the SAS and help out.
I’m hoping that this poster will inspire the public to become a member of the SAS and help fund
their campaigns, attend fundraisers and events or just help to inspire other people to help. I’m
aiming all of my posters at eco conscious people (of both genders) from ages 16-60 and of course,
surfers.
