ABU DHABI
CAUSES OF DEATH
Abu Dhabi has similar statistics to Dubai in most of their
mortality statistics, however in the most recent reports the
rate of death by injury is far higher than Dubai.
This means that there is potentially a much greater market for
supported living care and case management for Acquired Brain
Injuries.
8. In Dubai over 76% of healthcare
professionals work for private
organisations and hospitals.

hospitals and service centres account

11. The United Arab Emirates
commands an enviable
position in terms of
climate and scenery.
It is also within 8 hours
flight time of two thirds
of the worlds population.
Making the U.A.E one of the
fastest growing markets for
health tourism.

As demand for hospital beds grows
over the coming years a greater
reliance will be placed on the use
of care in the community and care
at home services.
This is part of the drive for
‘Integrated continuation of care’
which is now being implemented in
the U.A.E.
13. The U.A.E. in general and Dubai and Abu
Dhabi in particular have young
populations compared to the average for
most countries.
However the number of over 65s is
growing at a steady rate and is
expected to increase as the expatriate
population begins to age.

DUBAI HOSPITALS
Dubai alone had 24 hospitals in 2016, the majority of
these hospitals are based in so called ‘Old Dubai’ and can
offer lucrative partnership opportunities for patient
discharge and homecare.
As the population grows in and around the Jumeirah Village
area the need for hospital and homecare support is
expected to grow.
15. SERVICES
IN DEMAND
There are a range of services that are
currently in high demand in the United
Arab Emirates.
Most of these services are based around
changes in lifestyle and priority for
the Expatriate and Emirati populations.
Here we highlight three key areas with
high demand and growth potential.
16. NEONATAL
MORTALITY RATE
Across major markets
While the United Arab Emirates is one of the safest
countries in the region to have and raise children, it
still has a higher child neonatal mortality rate than
many other wealthy nations.
Given how complicated and difficult childbirth can be it
is not surprising that more couples in the U.A.E are
seeking additional clinical support when trying for a
child.

17. LIFESTYLE
DISEASES
Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) has become
such an issue in the UAE that in 2008
HAAD began a screening programme in
order to highlight cardiovascular risk
factors for all adult nationals.
Similarly diabetes in increasing due to
a range of factors including more
sedentary lifestyles.
As lifestyles become more sedentary and
people are living longer it is likely
that the prevalence of lifestyle
diseases will increase.
Some estimates for deaths due to Cardiovascular
Disease (CVD) are as high as 30% of all deaths
in certain regions of the U.A.E.
CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
About 20% of adults in the United Arab
Emirates smoke, this leads to
significant rates of Lung Cancer and
contributes to a range of other cancer
related illnesses.
CANCER
The rate of diabetes related illnesses have
witnessed an unprecedented increase in the GCC
which is expected to increase from 1.5 million
cases in 2000 to 4.5 million by 2030.
