IB Design Cycle assignment__Final DesignCycle Project_____ Name ____Tomás Molina___________________
Stage 1 – CRITERION A - INQUIRINGAND ANALYZING
The PROBLEM to be solvedis
Imagine you are an entrepreneur and want to set up your own company (free topic). Apply the "design
cycle" you have studied this year with the aim of finding solutions to the following needs.
The reasonthisproblemis IMPORTANT TO SOCIETY is
By developing all the stages of this project, we are learning all the steps an entrepreneurin real life would
have to follow in order to set up its own enterprise in a small scale. By learning this we will be able to apply
to our real lives further on, and thus, be direct contributors to the improvement of society by developing
new and innovative ideas.
The METHOD/PROCESS I will use tofindthe answertothe problemwill be to (Whatare youbeingaskedtodo? What
are the directions?)
1. A research work on your products, services, manufacturing, marketing, advertising, exclusivity, staff
team, etc. (Report)
2. Internet presence (Website)
3. A multimedia presentation of yourcompany’s mission and vision and the products and services you are
offering. (Powerpoint, Prezi, Videoscribe or Powtoon)
4. The organizational structure of your company: (employees, suppliers, customers, products, services, etc.
(Conceptual Map)
5. The locations of your future company’s buildings, shops, factories, industrial units, etc. (Screenshot on
Google Maps)
6. A welcome letter for your employees. (e-mail)
7a. A multimedia advertising poster. (Blogster)
7b. A promotional videoon yourproducts or services. (Digital camera)
8a. An art gallery with pictures of yourproducts or services. (ArtMajeur online gallery)
8b. Digital images on your products or services. (Photoshop)
* The whole process should be reflected in your “IB Design Cycle Journal Outline”.
The PRODUCT I will CREATEto answerthe questionwill be
Our main product will be a webpage that talks about ourcompany, in which all the other activities will be
embedded as to keep everything in a single place.
Thisproduct will ANSWERTHE QUESTION BY
By creating the webpage and developingall these activities,we will be acting like real entrepreneurs, whowill
accomplishthe main purpose of this project, and we will also be usingthe DesignCycle.
ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM/RESEARCH NOTES
- WRITE RESEARCH NOTES ON SEPARATE PAPER
- Investigate multiple sources
- Show DEPTH – evidence oftime and effort!
WORKS CITED – Be sure you are usingthe correct format! (referto the website or sheetin the front of your notebook)
 You mustinclude atleast ONE PRIMARY RESOURCE and THREE SECONDARY RESOURCES
 You can add to thisas youcontinue towork onyour product.
 Be sure youtype and save this. You will needtoturnyourcompletedWorksCitedpage withyourfinal product.
My PERSONAL GOALSfor thisprojectare (be detailed/specific)
I hope that by this project I can be able to get at least a rough idea of how it isthe process of settingup your own
company, as I hope that inmy future I may be able to be an entrepreneurmyself, andmanage my own business.
I PLAN on achievingthose goalsby (be detailed/specific)
I plan to put all my effortin thisproject and take it seriously,as to ensure that the experience accomplishesitsgoal.
Stage 2 – CRITERION B – DEVELOPING IDEAS
 You shouldcreate AT LEAST two differentdesignsofthe SAME product.
 Each designand its evaluationshouldbe done on a separate sheetof paper.
 In theory, everydesignshouldbe BETTER than the one before it.
Design #1 – DETAILED drawing that includes ALL of the designspecifications outlinedinthe directions.
Youcan describe the size, location, and color of the designin a separate sentence.
I plan to first, make a brainstorm of ideas for my company. Then I will choose the best one. After that, I will
write a report that specifies all the resources my company is going to need, and also the employees and the
providers I will work with. Then, I will create a webpage to advertise my company. After that I will create a
multimedia presentation that talks about my company´s mission and vision and the products or services I
offer. Later, I will create a concept map that exposes the organizational structure of my company. Then I
will look for choose my company´s future building and take a screenshot of its location in Google Maps.
Later, I will write a welcome letter to my future employees. After that I will create a multimedia advertising
poster and an art gallery with pictures of my products, And finally, I will insert all of this into my webpage,
so people can see all my work.
DESIGN ANALYSIS
Good (be detailed – tell why; use the word because)
It is good because it allows me to have a better view
on all the taks I have to accomplish in order to
achieve my main goal.
Bad (be detailed – tell why; use the word because)
It is bad because it restricts me from skipping steps
and doing 2 tasks at once, since it is organized to be
followed in order.
Stage 3 – CRITERION C – CREATING THE SOLUTION
STEP BY STEP PLAN – (so detailed that someone else can create it and it would look the same as yours –
what, where, why, how…you do not need to write anything obvious, like “turn on the computer”)
TELL ME HOW TO MAKE IT! – You can also draw a picture to help clarify your description.
I should see all parts of the DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS in your creation steps.
Please feel free to write your plan on separate paperinstead of in the limited space on this sheet.
1. Make a brainstorm for ideas of future company
2. Choose the flower consolidation company.
3. Write a research report stating all the resources that will be needed for my flower consolidation
company, including products, marketing, advertising, exclusivity, staff team, etc.
4. Create a website to advertise my flower consolidation company.
5. Create a multimedia presentation of my flowers consolidation company’s mission and vision and the
products and services that will be offered by it, including quality controland client service, and insert it on
my webpage, as to inform people better.
6. Create a concept map with the organizational structure of my company, including employees and all the
essential members, such as the manager and the accountant and insert it on my webpage, as to let people
know how our structure is.
7. Select a location for my future flower consolidation company´s building, and mark it on Google Maps.
Take a screenshot of it and insert it on my web page, so people can know where we are located.
8. Create a welcome letter for my future employees, and put it on my website so they receive it
automatically when they sing up to it.
9. Create a multimedia advertising poster showing pictures of my products and put it on my webpage as to
attract people.
evidence,example,explanation
10. Create an art gallery with pictures of my products to let people know how they will looklike, and embed
it to my webpage.
You can use the back if you need more room!!
The MATERIALS I will use are
 A computer
 Internet
 A camera
*****THIS IS WHERE YOU SHOULD CREATE YOUR PRODUCT*****
What was GOOD about my PLAN (not my product) was
It was very organized and helped me to follow easy steps on an organized way, and I was able to handle the
time I occupied for each step correctly.
What was BAD about my PLAN (not my product) was
It didn´t let me skip some steps and move to other ones, I had to stick to the established.
The MODIFICATIONS/CHANGES I made to my plan were
I didn´t change my plan at all. I used it the way I first created it.
Stage 4 – CRITERION D - EVALUATING
EVIDENCE that your product is APPROPRIATEQUALITY
APPROPRIATE QUALITY is the bestitcan be consideringyour ability, the time youhadtocomplete it andthe resources
youhad available. Yourentire projectmaybe appropriate, yourentire projectmaybe inappropriate, oryoumayhave
some parts that are appropriate andsome that are inappropriate. Regardless, evaluateitsqualityandprovide
EVIDENCE!
Provide proof that you followed directions. What is on the rubric and how can I see it on the product.
Example: Itwas organized. Evidenceisthatitwas easyto readand the textwas notcluttered.
1 . Report: All sources (information and graphics) are accurately documented in the desired format.
Evidence is that the sources were cited correctly and as accurate as possible.
2. Website: The website has an exceptionally attractive and usable layout. It is easy to locate all the
important elements. White space, graphicelements and/oralignment are used effectively to organize
material. Evidence is that my website has a simple and attractive design, is easy to use and to find what is
desired are clearly organized and well distributed.
3. Multimedia presentation: Covers topicin-depth with details and examples. Subject knowledge is
excellent. Evidence is that my multimedia presentation is very detailed and offers examples, and
demonstrates my knowledge about flower consolidation and exportation.
4. Concept map: Well organized. Logical format. Contains main concepts. All key words and concepts
necessary to promote an overview of the unit are used and well organized to give added meaning. Evidence
is that my concept map is very well organized and gives a view of the main structure of my company, with
the main concepts handled correctly.
5. All placemarks are in appropriate places, many are uniquely located. Evidence is that my screenshot
marks an existing place and show the important building that are near to it as to help visitor orientate.
6. Ideas were expressed in a clear and organized fashion. It was easy to figure out what the letter was
about. Evidence is that my letter is very clear and direct, and addresses directly what I expect from my
employees.
7. Multimedia poster: Several of the graphics used on the posterreflect an exceptional degree of student
creativity in their creation and/or display. Evidence is that all the images on my poster are surrounded with
borders and the logo of my company is inserted in it.
8. Online gallery: Several of the graphics or objects used in the gallery reflect an exceptional degree of
student creativity in their creation and/or display. The gallery includes 10 or more items, each different.
Evidence is that the pictures displayed in my gallery reflect that the products of my company would look like
in an accurate way, and displays them correctly. It contains 10 pictures.
A TESTING METHOD I can use to measure the success of my product is
I can ask a friend to tell me what he thinks of my webpage, and ask him if he thinks enough information is
provided.
(How can I find out if my product solves the problem?)
My product can be IMPROVED by
My product could be improved by adding more functions to my webpage, and include more information
about my company, especially about the flowerproviders.
TELL HOW THAT IMPROVES IT
It would improve it because it would be able to attract more people, as even more information would be
provided, making it more reliable, and with more functions it would be more interactive.
My product/solutioncan IMPACTSOCIETY by
It can make an impact in me. I am a part of society. By impacting me by teaching me how to be an
entrepreneur, it makes a change in society.
EXPLAIN HOW IT MAKES AN IMPACT
By learning to be an entrepreneur, I will be able to set u my own company in the future, and by doing that I
will be contributing tosociety with new innovative ideas, services or products.

The PRODUCT I will CREATEto answerthe questionwill be Our main product will be a webpage that talks about ourcompany, in which all the other activities will be embedded as to keep everything in a single place. Thisproduct will ANSWERTHE QUESTION BY By creating the webpage and developingall these activities,we will be acting like real entrepreneurs, whowill accomplishthe main purpose of this project, and we will also be usingthe DesignCycle. ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM/RESEARCH NOTES - WRITE RESEARCH NOTES ON SEPARATE PAPER - Investigate multiple sources - Show DEPTH – evidence oftime and effort! WORKS CITED – Be sure you are usingthe correct format! (referto the website or sheetin the front of your notebook)  You mustinclude atleast ONE PRIMARY RESOURCE and THREE SECONDARY RESOURCES  You can add to thisas youcontinue towork onyour product.  Be sure youtype and save this. You will needtoturnyourcompletedWorksCitedpage withyourfinal product. My PERSONAL GOALSfor thisprojectare (be detailed/specific) I hope that by this project I can be able to get at least a rough idea of how it isthe process of settingup your own company, as I hope that inmy future I may be able to be an entrepreneurmyself, andmanage my own business. I PLAN on achievingthose goalsby (be detailed/specific) I plan to put all my effortin thisproject and take it seriously,as to ensure that the experience accomplishesitsgoal. Stage 2 – CRITERION B – DEVELOPING IDEAS  You shouldcreate AT LEAST two differentdesignsofthe SAME product. After that, I will write a report that specifies all the resources my company is going to need, and also the employees and the providers I will work with. Then, I will create a webpage to advertise my company. After that I will create a
  • 3. multimedia presentation that talks about my company´s mission and vision and the products or services I offer. Later, I will create a concept map that exposes the organizational structure of my company. Then I will look for choose my company´s future building and take a screenshot of its location in Google Maps. Later, I will write a welcome letter to my future employees. After that I will create a multimedia advertising poster and an art gallery with pictures of my products, And finally, I will insert all of this into my webpage, so people can see all my work. DESIGN ANALYSIS Good (be detailed – tell why; use the word because) It is good because it allows me to have a better view on all the taks I have to accomplish in order to achieve my main goal. Bad (be detailed – tell why; use the word because) It is bad because it restricts me from skipping steps and doing 2 tasks at once, since it is organized to be followed in order. Stage 3 – CRITERION C – CREATING THE SOLUTION STEP BY STEP PLAN – (so detailed that someone else can create it and it would look the same as yours – what, where, why, how…you do not need to write anything obvious, like “turn on the computer”) TELL ME HOW TO MAKE IT! – You can also draw a picture to help clarify your description. I should see all parts of the DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS in your creation steps. Please feel free to write your plan on separate paperinstead of in the limited space on this sheet. 1. What was BAD about my PLAN (not my product) was It didn´t let me skip some steps and move to other ones, I had to stick to the established. The MODIFICATIONS/CHANGES I made to my plan were I didn´t change my plan at all. I used it the way I first created it. A TESTING METHOD I can use to measure the success of my product is I can ask a friend to tell me what he thinks of my webpage, and ask him if he thinks enough information is provided. (How can I find out if my product solves the problem?) My product can be IMPROVED by My product could be improved by adding more functions to my webpage, and include more information about my company, especially about the flowerproviders.
