3. Evaluation summit ($1,500.00) (includes air fair for
Marilyn Charging Crow to Seattle for summit), a one day
summit/retreat with food
4. Honor Gifts to Charging Crow Family and Big Foot
Memorial Ride elders: $500.00
5. Printing of proposals….$70.00
6. Printing of memorial ribbon to accompany moccasins
and books: $100.00 approximately
7. Books: Donated by Pacific Northwest Montessori
Association (total amount of donation not known yet but I
am requesting matching funds) $500.00
TOTAL REQUEST: $5,500-$6,000.00 approximately.
In kind service of labor donated by participants.
This amount insures: completion of project, travel for
distribution set up, honoring participating Native Elders,
planning for continuance of program through non profits.
21. Recommendations for
other donations from NAAICE
1. Scholarships for Lakota/& or Native American students at the graduate or undergraduate level in the medical/ education field through University of
Washington or other universities. Stipulation for service time at Pine Ridge etc. could be a part of the scholarship $30,000-$60,000 or more (only
preliminary research on this so far)
2. Pine Ridge Hospital Baby Basket Program through the American Indian Relief Association. This program appears to be a direct outgrowth of Mercy Apostle’s
work: $5,000. It is administered by American Indian Relief Fund in Rapid City S.D.
3. Native Women's Health Care Clinic at Rapid City serving Lakota infants and families : a financial donation of $5,00-$10,000 for set up of baby basket program
in Mercy’s honor ( $75.00 per basket). Women delivering on reservation receive a basket-- women delivering off reservation receive nothing. According to
Barbara Bloomfield supervisor at the clinic most Lakota women deliver at the regional hospital so they can get an epidural not provided for at the Pine Ridge
hospital and are thus served by her clinic.
4. University of Washington Native American Outreach Pathology Program, A program endowed by a Dr. that builds experiences and interests among local
Native American youth in entering the medical fields as a profession. $1,000 or more
5. Project Tewahila (love), Wowiyuskin (joy), Wocekiya (prayer), Onsila (mercy) Wakanyeja( babies & children are sacred . $6,000.
6. Project Continuing Traditions: Offers high quality culturally relevant workshop to a field with limited funding for an urban workshop for 100 in Seattle.
Workshop focus is enhancement of connection for Native Americans families and the providers that serve them Workshop will be free and provide state
approved trainers and give credits for participants toward their yearly required training. $8,000 (Donnas' project)
7. Puyallup Indian Education Johnson O’Malley Executive Parent Committee & children and youth project( this project tied to graduate research) Presents
outreach to urban children and youth for school retention tied to culture, $2,000
8. Red Cedar Circle: Seattle based Urban Indian Spiritual circle for food for their meetings and emergency winter assistance : $2,000 .

people that will honor both Vashti Apostle Hurst’s work among the Lakota with

While embracing the Big Foot Memorial Ride’s recognition of the ancestors who died
at Wounded Knee among which were infants, children and elders.
To explore the possibility of continuing the project on a long term basis after the
divesting of NAAICE
