Vitamin C plays an important role in collagen formation, iron absorption, and acting as an antioxidant. A deficiency can lead to scurvy, characterized by weakened blood vessels and bones from collagen loss, fatigue, bleeding gums, and hair and tooth loss. While vitamin C supplements can help with wound healing and colds, high doses can increase the risk of oxalate stone formation. Good dietary sources include citrus fruits, tomatoes, and potatoes.

• Hydroxylation of proline and lysine.
• Play role in network formation of collagen.
• Collagen found in connective tissue formation(bone healing) , epithelium
formation and also strengthen bones.
2. Iron absorption :
• It prevent conversion of ferrous into ferric which helps increase
absorption of iron into blood.
3. Antioxidant :
• It prevents oxidation. Substance that prevents cells against free
radicals. Play role in heart diseases, cancer and other diseases.

• Infantile scurvy called Barlow’s disease.
