• What’s in it for me? Why do you even want your fans to engage?
• How to turn fans into leads & into paying customers!
NB: I’m not an expert or a guru! Just a humble student of the industry (with access
to some very successful people) sharing what has/hasn’t worked for me!
Firstly, a small mindset tweak!
• FB algorithms WILL change!
• FB WILL try to make money for themselves! They are a
business after all.
• GET OVER IT! Decide to work with the changes and roll
with the punchs! It’s a mostly a FREE service after all!

What’s In It For Me?
Why We Want Fans To Engage.
What is Engagement (in the eyes of Facebook)?
• Like
• Comment
• Share
• Click (on a link within your post, if you have one)
If no-one is engaging on your posts, Facebook assumes no-one is interested in
your page & will push your posts lower down the newsfeed, therefore less will see
them (decline in reach) so they won’t engage…and so on and so on!
When you do make a promotional or sales post, the lower your reach the fewer
fans (if any) will see it!
So How Does Increasing Your
Engagement & Reach Turn More Fans
Into Leads & Customers?
STRATEGY: When you work at increasing your engagement
and thus reach, when you do a promotional or sales offer
(which is usually not going to attract much engagement), it
will go into more newsfeeds!
Resulting in free advertising!
What To Post..
• So you want to post things that will elicit a response
from the viewer – a click, like, share or comment.
• Post content that is relevant, interesting, entertaining,
shocking (but don’t offend), “share worthy” of your
fans. NB: your fans should be your target audience!
Common mistake (one I didn’t understand) – all content
DOES NOT have to be relevant to your business or product,
it needs to be relevant to the audience!
What To Post..
• Inspiring quotes (text and picture)
Use Google, picmonkey.com & 123rf.com to make your own picture quotes.
• Memes & edited pictures
Use Photofunia.com or someecards.com or just google “make a meme”.
• Infographics , word puzzles, quizzes, surveys.
Make your own (Google it!), use Fiverr.com or share someone else’s!
• Offers and event invites (to webinars like this!)
My light bulb moment!
Have you ever wondered about those anonyms or generic
pages with hundreds of thousands of likes? Who is behind
them and why?
• Multiple pages can be used to promote different product lines/services etc. for
same business WITHOUT ever mentioning the business!
• Mindset shift! Grow your page around PEOPLE not PRODUCT! What is the purpose of your
page?
When To Post..
• General consensus: post 2-5 times a day
Use FB scheduling or an auto poster (eg. Hootsuite)
• Once you have a reasonable number of fans (I think you
need at least 30) and are getting some engagement
check your insights
Facebook Insights
Look to Facebook analytics “Insights” to see…
• What time your audience are online - best times to post!
• What type of posts get the best engagement (photos, links, text, videos)
- do more of what’s working!
• The age and location demographics – tailor your message to them OR start
working towards getting more targeting fans!
More ideas..
• Share content from other pages
You don’t need to go searching each time. Like other pages (as your page, NOT as your
profile)! Check your pages newsfeed and “share” to your page.
• Share content from sites like ScoopIt & YouTube
NB: links don’t seem to get the best reach. Test it out but aim to share lots of fresh (link
free) content too! Trial and error is your friend!
• Videos get great engagement
(I think a full view is counted as a “click”). Upload direct to FB and keep it short.
Ask in video for a like, share and/or comment.
• Watch what other pages are doing
Look for pages with a similar audience.
• Give a direct call to action
NB: I heard that FB are on to this and wont count asking for likes/shares etc.
as engagement. If so, be creative - thumbs up if, give me feedback if,
tell me about, finish this sentence, create a caption etc., etc.
And Some More…
think outside the box!!
• Join or start a FB posts syndication group
• Post to groups; instead of starting a new post, copy the time stamp or just
share direct from your post. This also helps with social proof as the comment
feed is continued.
NB: this gets me new likers to my page too, because they can easily click on my page
name and like my page. If I posted the content fresh they would have to hunt around
to find me.
• Post your FB Page posts on your blog and in your
emails/newsletters.
Again, use the timestamp to get the individual post URL. Ask them to engage by
asking a question.

NB: your fans should be your target audience! Common mistake (one I didn’t understand) – all content DOES NOT have to be relevant to your business or product, it needs to be relevant to the audience!

What To Post.. • Inspiring quotes (text and picture) Use Google, picmonkey.com & 123rf.com to make your own picture quotes. • Memes & edited pictures Use Photofunia.com or someecards.com or just google “make a meme”. • Infographics , word puzzles, quizzes, surveys. Make your own (Google it!), use Fiverr.com or share someone else’s! • Offers and event invites (to webinars like this!)
  • 9. My light bulb moment! Have you ever wondered about those anonyms or generic pages with hundreds of thousands of likes? Who is behind them and why? • Multiple pages can be used to promote different product lines/services etc. for same business WITHOUT ever mentioning the business! • Mindset shift! Grow your page around PEOPLE not PRODUCT! What is the purpose of your page?
  • 10. When To Post.. • General consensus: post 2-5 times a day Use FB scheduling or an auto poster (eg. Hootsuite) • Once you have a reasonable number of fans (I think you need at least 30) and are getting some engagement check your insights

Facebook Insights Look to Facebook analytics “Insights” to see… • What time your audience are online - best times to post! • What type of posts get the best engagement (photos, links, text, videos) - do more of what’s working! • The age and location demographics – tailor your message to them OR start working towards getting more targeting fans!
  • 12. More ideas.. • Share content from other pages You don’t need to go searching each time. Like other pages (as your page, NOT as your profile)! Check your pages newsfeed and “share” to your page. • Share content from sites like ScoopIt & YouTube NB: links don’t seem to get the best reach. Test it out but aim to share lots of fresh (link free) content too! Trial and error is your friend! • Videos get great engagement (I think a full view is counted as a “click”). Upload direct to FB and keep it short. Ask in video for a like, share and/or comment. • Watch what other pages are doing Look for pages with a similar audience. • Give a direct call to action NB: I heard that FB are on to this and wont count asking for likes/shares etc. as engagement. If so, be creative - thumbs up if, give me feedback if, tell me about, finish this sentence, create a caption etc., etc.
  • 13. And Some More… think outside the box!! • Join or start a FB posts syndication group • Post to groups; instead of starting a new post, copy the time stamp or just share direct from your post. This also helps with social proof as the comment feed is continued. NB: this gets me new likers to my page too, because they can easily click on my page name and like my page. If I posted the content fresh they would have to hunt around to find me. • Post your FB Page posts on your blog and in your emails/newsletters. Again, use the timestamp to get the individual post URL. Ask them to engage by asking a question.
