10. Design Approaches: (some) KISS principle, (Keep it Simple Stupid, etc.), which strives to eliminate unnecessary complications. There is more than one way to do it (TIMTOWTDI), a philosophy to allow multiple methods of doing the same thing. Use-centered design, which focuses on the goals and tasks associated with the use of the artifact, rather than focusing on the end user. User-centered design, which focuses on the needs, wants, and limitations of the end user of the designed artifact. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design
11. Design Methods include: Exploring possibilities and constraints by focusing critical thinking skills to research and define problem spaces for existing products or services—or the creation of new categories; (see also Brainstorming) Redefining the specifications of design solutions which can lead to better guidelines for traditional design activities (graphic, industrial, architectural, etc.); Managing the process of exploring, defining, creating artifacts continually over time Prototyping possible scenarios, or solutions that incrementally or significantly improve the inherited situation Trendspotting; understanding the trend process. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design
12. Design: As a verb, "to design" refers to the process of originating and developing a plan for a product, structure, system, or component with intention[1]. As a noun, "a design" is used for either the final (solution) plan (e.g. proposal, drawing, model, description) or the result of implementing that plan in the form of the final product of a design process[2]. This classification aside, in its broadest sense no other limitations exist and the final product can be anything from clothing to graphical user interfaces to skyscrapers. Even virtual concepts such as corporate identity and cultural traditions such as celebration of certain holidays[3] are sometimes designed. More recently, processes (in general) have also been treated as products of design, giving new meaning to the term process design.

PRESENTATION NOTES: As I mentioned I literally live “on the road” in that I am traveling constantly. In addition to my air travel to be with great audiences such as yourself I am out traveling the oceans of the world and this is my current home and office, my 50’ (17 m) steel monohull sailboat “Learnativity” It was a bit difficult to be able to sail to Las Vegas to be with you today, so I’m coming to you remote instead. this is also another way in which I am constantly seeking new perspectives, seeing and experiencing things from a different point of view. Both literally as in from the sea in the case of my boat, but also figuratively from spending extended periods of time with different cultures and regions of the world. THIS is my home and office now well actually my address is 13.15.795N 88.29.198W El SalvadorKEY WORDS: Fellow Strategic Futurist SnowflakeHome office laboratory First Mate Ruby
PRESENTATION NOTES: one of the wonderfully weird aspects of my current situation is that I am of no fixed address THIS is my home and office now well actually my address is 13.15.795N 88.29.198W El Salvador this is also part of a grand experiment I’m conducting to learn what it means to work and live in an exponential world by using methods that scale very well, such as remote presence, capturing, publishing and sharingKEY WORDS: sail boat El Salvador Mooring Hurricane Home Office
PRESENTATION NOTES:Think of a snowflake. Every snowflake is unique. hopefully you had someone close to you when you were young, and still today, who tells you that you are unique and “just like a snowflake” Think of yourself and your job and roles on teams. These too are unique. This is multiplied by the fact that every project, every situation and moment is unique: more snowflakes.KEY WORDS: snowflakeUNIQUE uniqueness special variables

PRESENTATION NOTES:3D printing is rapidly moving to more and more desktops as they follow the classic decline in cost and increase in capability. note the ability to “print” in many different materials from paper to wax to metal already available as an online delivery service ponoko.com zazzle.com styleshake.com This not only takes digital prototyping to a new level, but also enables mass personalization of manufactured parts and even full working assemblies. imagine for instance when hardware stores are reduced to a simple kiosk or vending machine on the corner where you simply tell it how many nuts and bolts you want, KEY WORDS:3D 3D Printing scanning molds ( knee brace
PRESENTATION NOTES:music recommender systems provide one of the best examples of not only how the Snowflake Effect can work but also one which is happening right now. (for over 2 years actually)Consider how difficult this problem is; finding songs that are just right for you, just now yet this is being done for several years with amazing success. Some examples you can try include: http://www.lastfm.com www.pandora.com www.slacker.com not one station each , but an infinite number for each of us to match each day’s unique set of conditionsI encourage you to try some of these existing examples of mass personalization. I think ou will be quite shocked at just how well they work. But how does this affect your job roles and your organizations?KEY WORDS: music recommender systems eclectic
