Astrology originated in ancient Egypt around 4200 BC and was used by many ancient civilizations to foretell events and health based on the positioning of planets. The Chaldeans were the first to create astrological charts mapping the 12 constellations and dividing the sky into 12 houses to represent areas of life influenced by planetary positioning. While astrology was historically considered a science, the modern scientific community rejects astrology as it has found no evidence that planetary positions can actually affect people or events on Earth in a way that is consistent with biology and physics.
2. HOW IT ORIGINATED.
The word astrology comes from the early Latin word astrologia, deriving from the Greek noun
ἀστρολογία, 'account of the stars'. Astrologia later passed into meaning 'star-divination' with
astronomia used for the scientific term.
The form of astrology we know today can be traced back to Egypt around 4200 BC. Specific
astrological records are known from around the 7th century BC. Until around 300 years ago,
anatomy, astronomy, and astrology were the same science. Events, as well as health were
foretold or analyzed according to the planets.
The Chaldeans were the first to create an astrological chart. They devised the first mathematical
calculations of the planets in relation to a specific band (ecliptic) in the heavens. They devised the
ephemerid, which is a table showing the movements of the planets. The earliest known
ephemerid dates from the mid 7th century during the reign of Assyrian King Assurbanipal.
3. WHO USED ASTROLOGY ?
Astrology was used by almost all ancient civilizations and it is still being used today.
An excellent example of ancient astrology can be found in the astronomical and astrological
abilities of the Ancient Mayan City in Mexico. These historical people may be found at the
Caracol observatory in an ancient Mayan city of Mexico. On the inside a spiral staircase may be
found which leads up to a number of windows. Each of these corresponds to the positions of the
planets as they appeared to ancient observers at various times of the year.
Much of the past still remains a mystery because very little of the knowledge that these ancient
cultures acquired was committed to writing. An element of secrecy was maintained regarding
any knowledge of the universe.
Most of the information was transmitted orally from generation to generation to chosen
individuals in order to maintain this secrecy. As a rule it was regarded as a privilege that was not
shared with ordinary people.
These monuments illustrate a fascinating element of the achievements of ancient cultures.
4. IS ASTROLOGY A SCIENCE?
Astrology has been rejected by the scientific community as having no explanatory power
for describing the universe. Scientific testing of astrology has been conducted, and no
evidence has been found to support any of the premises or purported effects outlined in
astrological traditions.
[7]:424 There is no proposed mechanism of action by which the
positions and motions of stars and planets could affect people and events on Earth that
does not contradict well understood, basic aspects of biology and physics.
[5]:249[6]
The majority of professional astrologers rely on performing astrology-based personality
tests and making relevant predictions about the remunerator's future.
[87]:83 Those who
continue to have faith in astrology have been characterized as doing so "in spite of the
fact that there is no verified scientific basis for their beliefs, and indeed that there is
strong evidence to the contrary".
5. The Chaldeans mapped the twelve constellations the planets regularly pass in front of. They
noted that every two hours, the constellations would shift in the sky about 30° (1/12th of a
complete circle). The Chaldeans also divided the heavens into twelve other segments, called
Houses. Houses represent areas of life and are influenced according to which planets are passing
through them and according to their relationships with each other. The angle between them
would determine the nature of their influence. Most astrology of the ancient civilized world was
concerned with large-scale events such as war, natural disaster, and the rise and fall of kings.
Personal astrology came later.
Astrology always came into conflict with all main religions.
Although not a science, Astrology has several tools like:
1) Astrological Birth Charts
2) Personal Astrological Transit Charts.
