2. 7.005
Qualified Supervisor of a Sex Therapist
*F.S. stands for “Florida Statute”
1) License Requirements:
• Must be licensed as one of the following:
– Clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist, mental health
counselor (F.S. 491)
– Psychologist (F.S. 490)
– Physician (F.S. 458 or F.S. 459)
– A field in another state that is comparable to the above professions
– An unlicensed person in a field in another state that is comparable
to the above professions, who meets all of the qualifications under
Rule 64B4-11.007, 64B4-21.007, or 64B4-31.007, F.A.C.

Qualified Supervisor of a Sex Therapist
2) Education Requirements:
• Must have one of the following:
– Finished all education requirements pursuant to 64B4-7.004(2)(a),
F.A.C.
• Continuing education
– Completed all requirements under subsection 64B4-7.004(3), F.A.C.
• Previously qualified between 2/25/1990-12/31/1996
3) Clinical Requirements
– 100 hrs minimum in providing sex therapy in a clinical setting

Requirements for Evaluations of Minors for the Purpose
of Addressing Custody, Residence or Visitation Disputes
1) Requirements for the licensee in an evaluation:
a. Knowledgeable in providing psychological assessments for
children and families
b. Sufficient training in the following capacities:
– Development in children and families
– Psychopathology in children and families
– The impact divorce has on children and families
c. Comprehension of legal procedures and standards regarding
divorce and the custody of children

Requirements for Evaluations of Minors for the Purpose
of Addressing Custody, Residence or Visitation Disputes
2) Requirements during an evaluation:
• The licensee must:
a. Be unbiased, act for the sole benefit of the child, avoid incorporating personal interests,
not have been the psychotherapist providing treatment to the child, or not have had a
relationship with any involved parties prior to the evaluation
b. Use a variety of resources to gather data and involve all essential parties for the child’s
evaluation
– Testing/interviews should be incorporated in data collection
– AT MINIMUM, those who are considered essential to the child include:
– Those who are in communication with the child
– Those seeking custody or visitation with the child
– Any treating professionals (ie. physician, mental health)
– Immediate family relatives

Requirement to Hold Oneself Out as Qualified to
Practice Juvenile Sex Offender Therapy
1) Educational area requirements as of October 1st, 2000 pursuant to Rule
64B4-6.002 [continuing education], F.A.C.:
a. Child/Adolescent developmental and psychopathological theory
b. Sexuality development
– Includes anatomy/physiology of sex/reproduction, sex/gender identity, diversity in sex
c. The dynamics between sexuality and interpersonal relationships
– Includes relationships within the family)
d. Patterns of sexual arousal
– Includes fantasies that are of both usual and unusual nature
e. Sexual disorders, impairment, and divergence
– Includes patterns of sex abuse and errors in thinking that fuel the cycle of abuse
f. Empathy for victims and the study of victimization

Practice Juvenile Sex Offender Therapy
1) Educational area requirements as of October 1st, 2000 pursuant to
Rule 64B4-6.002, F.A.C.: (continued)
g. Appropriate and inappropriate use of defense mechanisms
h. Power and control dynamics
i. Management of compulsive behaviors, control of arousal, regulating anger, and
preventing the event of a relapse
j. Juvenile resilience in society, knowledge, and interpersonal efficacy
k. Group therapy and biomedical strategies in treating sexual disorders,
impairment, and divergence
l. Legal, ethical, and forensic complications in the treatment of juvenile sex
offenders

Requirement to Hold Oneself Out as Qualified to
Practice Juvenile Sex Offender Therapy
2) Continuing Education Requirements:
– 20 hrs for every 2-year license renewal in any of the previously mentioned
subject areas or subject areas pursuant to Rule 64B4-7.004(2)(a), F.A.C.
