1. Why is there a new or renewed interest in the field of project management? IT is growing at a
rapid rate and with that growth demands people to manage this growth. People I think are more
trained to be project managers and also there is new software that helps tremendously with the
management part of the tasks. So demand is up, skilled workers are up, and the cost benefit is there
for this renewed interest.

Regardless of what position you are in you always need that one person that get direction from that
completely understands what needs to be done. The job market for technology project managers is
just starting to scratch the surface of where it is heading. It is the most looked for skill in hiring
new employees. Technology is growing and so are the scopes of projects and thus the increasing
need for project managers in technology.
6. Briefly describe some key events in the history of project management. What role does the Project
Management Institute and other professional societies play in helping the profession? In 1917
Henry Gantt developed the Gantt chart for scheduling work in factories which basically displayed
project schedule information. The chart is still used today as a primary tool to communicate
project schedule information. During the Cold War they used network diagrams that helped
managers model the relationships among project tasks which were more realistic schedules. In the
70's the Military and civilian suppliers started using software to help with managing large projects.
In the 1990's when the number and complexity of projects began to increase, many project
management offices were created. Now companies hire specific employees to handle project
