OPENTHESTUDENT/PARENTDOOR Tips for maintaining superb daily study habits …without foregoing quality parenting ,[object Object],Distractions Children want attention and develop undesirable patterns if left to their own devices. Time consuming activities absorb excess time that could have been used scholastically. Health appointments and meetings such as P.T.A. require weekly trips and useless sitting. There is too much noise and confusion in the house to concentrate on study material. ,[object Object],Consolidate Include children. Let them “play teacher” while you study. Prepare with crayons & erase boards. Have a bag of scrap paper, crayons, and art products wherever you go. Conserve minutes. Most activities include down time for the parent. Separate your homework into categories. Always take the “bleacher” bag to events that historically include idle time. Any meeting/appointment is an opportunity to study. If a fiend can drive, study in the car. Teach your child to play “I spy” if you can’t study, for some healthy interaction. The bonding is immeasurable. Libraries, walk parks, book stores with play areas, foster opportunity for combined study and playtime. Save studying and assignments from the most challenging courses for early morning or after the children have gone to bed. Do dishes, laundry, cleaning and cooking with children in tow. It is not quantity,…it’s quality. Hug a little longer. Hold a little tighter.
