Sportsmanship Essay
Sports events are essentially social in character. They facilitate the coming together of people from
various parts of the country, at a national level, and various parts of the world, at the international
level. The dictionary defines sportsmanship as the face or practice of participating in sports or sport.
It is also the conduct and attitude considered as befitting participants in sports, especially fair play,
courtesy, striving spirit and grace in losing. The 'golden rule' for athletes is good sportsmanship. You
demonstrate this when you show respect for yourself, teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and
fans. Sportsmanship does not simply pertain to players, spectators,...show more content...
Second even if the other team is losing their tempers, it doesn't mean you have to. We are not
professional athletes but we are college players/fans so we must hold ourselves to a higher
standard because people are always watching. Third, cheer on your team with positive statements
and avoid trash talking the other team. Fourth when officials make a call, accept it gracefully even
if it goes against you. Remember the referees may not be right every time, but they are people doing
their best just as you are. Lastly, whether you win or lose, congratulate your opponents on a game
well played. The next time anyone plays a sport, they can hold their head high after the event and
look at themselves in the mirror and say, "I played my best and treated everyone with respect." I
know we play sports for the love of the game, but we must remember that we are all on the same

3. Living With Less By Graham Hill
I always knew people liked to consume more than what they need, but never really considered
how it affects our environment. Until I read an article by Graham Hill called "Living with Less.
A lot Less." In this article, Hill argues that individuals obtain products one doesn't need. Secondly,
he mentions how purchasing these products won't make you happy, but can do the exact
opposite. Lastly, Hill argues how living with less merchandise can make us feel and live happier.
As a result, I compared my life to his and realized he's right having less might give us the
opportunity to explore further. I agree with Hill's argument that one tends to buy more than what
they use. I, for instance, am one of those individuals. Hill mentions this by saying "Members of
every socioeconomic bracket can and do deluge themselves with products" (Hill 1). For instance,
I remember when I received my first payment from babysitting. I was thrilled with the idea of
finally being able to rely on myself to buy all the things I wanted. So, I headed towards the mall
and went on a shopping spree. As a result, I arrived home with bags of merchandise as I unloaded
them I became aware I had bought a lot of things I didn't need. As the days passed I became
conscious of how I didn't use much of what I had bought but bought them because I liked the idea of
being able to buy whatever I wanted without having anyone tell me what I couldn't buy. Not only
does Hills argument make sense but also makes an important

4. Requiem For The Living
Stories told in Requiem for the Living and In the Absence of Reliable Ghosts indicate that historical
stories may hold more significance than by simply being factual. It is debatable to say that objective
and factual historical stories even exist, as "historical truths" in texts are constantly met with counter
stories. Arondekar proposes that historical archives are valuable not in their factuality, but in their
salvific impact and implications to its historical setting for why they came into being. Suresh P.
Thomas supports a similar belief, stating, "What matters is not whether this or that nugget of
information is historically precise, but whether it is aesthetically valid." He argues that the sense of

While this fictional story is not based in fact, we can learn more about what it has to say about a
society that has lost its "true essence" through its adoption of the Catholic Church. Through Osha's
narrative, we see how dependent the people were on the church and its practices. The church
functioned as both the village's center of beliefs and its proprietor for services and transactions.
Catholicism was highly intertwined with the matriarchal structure of the village, with Mammanji
being exceedingly religious. We see how this adoption of the Catholic faith and perhaps the loss of
the village's original identity affect the men and women of the story quite differently. While
Mammanji and later Mamma embrace the religious practices and assimilate to the Catholic Church,
Pappa and even Osha to an extent struggle in this integration. From the very beginning, Pappa
overtly disrespected the church and his duties as the sacristan. While Osha was not openly against
the church like his father, he did struggle with a loss of identity and meaning as demonstrated in his
obsession with the chaavi. Once Osha lost his chaavi, he had lost his sense of meaning and
identity–which parallels the village's loss of identity when assimilating to the Catholic Church.
Another parallel lied in the perfectly preserved body of Mammanji, which resembled the body of Sir
Francis Xavier. Both became a spectacle for the faith and drew crowds of

5. Creative Writing: The Salt March
The Salt March
March 8, 1930. It was a normal day like any other. Little did I know, this would be the day that my
life would be forever changed. I briskly walk to my family's tiny wooden table and sit down for
dinner. My five other loud siblings have taken up the chairs and I am forced to sit on the floor.
Younger siblings can be very annoying occasionally. The delicious aroma of Mom's curry fills the
air. My talented mom serves us a bit before sitting down. When eating, we discuss our day. While
my brother is talking about a rhino he said his friend saw, I took a bite of my curry. I realize it
needs more salt, but when I reached for it, I see it isn't there. "Mom," I say, interrupting my brother.

He talked about the British Monarchy, the unfair tax on salt, and even about Lord Irwin.
We spent the night there and then in the morning, woke early to march again. In his speech,
Ghandi had urged the people to accompany us. It was very encouraging and a large handful of
people joined us. People had gathered flowers from the bushes and as we marched we sang and
threw flowers on the path. When we ran out of flower petals, we threw leaves instead.
Everyday we repeated the same routine, but it didn't get boring. I always looked forward to the
new village and new people. Each village had its own smells and looks that were never the same.
Finally, 24 days later, we reached the town of Dandi. The march had only started with about 70
people and ended with thousands. I was proud to be one of the original marchers.
The next morning, after giving a speech, Ghandi headed for the sea. He bent down and collected
some natural salt. We broke into cheers and ran to do the same. As I picked up a handful of salt, I
gazed at my sister in amazement. It felt good to directly violate Britain's unreasonable laws.
Ghandi had taught us to use "peaceful civil disobedience" and by knowing I was a part of the

For many teenagers, social media plays a big role in their lives. Social media like Twitter,
Facebook, Instagram, Path and many more can be useful tools to keep in touch with friends
which live far away. Social media is one of the most used types of websites by teenagers. This
means it is commonly used for both good and bad purposes. Although social media can be used

There are many
causes for Cyberbullying to occur.
The impacts of cyber bullying for the victims can be underestimated because they are
mainly psychological and not physical. Cyber bullying in its extremes has led to the death of
several teenagers. Cyber bullying leads to depression and lack of enthusiasm for life that drives
the victim to suicide in order to escape the torment. Actually, the first step of preventing and
stopping cyber bullying starts with the individual themselves. They should respect the others and
also themselves because everyone has their human rights and no one cannot destroy it. Simple
steps like using the internet appropriately and not provoking other users are very effective in
preventing cyber bullying. Using internet as the media social is fine but trying to harm people by
spreading gossip or starting rumors and stealing someone password or hacking are bad things.

Prior to completing Skip Downing's "On Course Self Assessment," I was starting to realize one of
my most sabotaging behaviors. I find it incredibly difficult to say a three–word phrase. When it
comes to assisting others, I have no problem lending a helping hand, but I cannot tell anyone that "I
need help." In writing this paper I hope to recognize the roots of my problem and adopt a plan to
aid me in overcoming this negative behavior. After I took the self–assessment and received a low
score in the area of interdependence, I began considering options for overcoming my hesitation so
that I may become a successful student. The first strategy is to learn that I cannot do everything by

We cannot know everything, and we can all benefit from mutual helping relationships. I may need
someone to explain something discussed in Psychology class today and that person may need the

of life. I do not need to feel ashamed for reaching out first. As a result of doing the assessment, I
realized that I seldom request and often reject offers of assistance. A successful student would
employ interdependence by actively seeking out mutually supportive relationships to help achieve
their goals and dreams, while doing the same for others in return. I chose this topic because I do not
want to be a struggling student! Interdependence is a key factor in being successful in college. In
order to obtain a degree a college student must do well in all areas of their studies. To accomplish
that, he or she must comprehend the subject matter taught and apply what they learn. If a student
does not understand something and refuses to ask for help when it is readily available, they are
only hurting themselves. Three little words can make all the difference. By asking someone who is
more knowledgeable than they may be in a certain area, they could find the missing pieces that lead
to total understanding. This will enable them to perform better on my assignments and to keep
moving forward towards that college degree. College can be an

11. Human Rights And Social Work
Starting with Jane Adams in the early 20th century, human rights were at the forefront of her work
with the Hull House which helped establish the social work profession as we know it (Healy, 2008).
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the values set and regulated by the NASW share a
common theme focusing on, dignity, self–determination, and improving the quality of life for
everyone. Social workers are on the forefront of advocating for, and creating social change, and
justice (NASW, 2015). Social work constantly challenges racism, discrimination and the inhumane
treatment of vulnerable people.
Internationally the social work profession attempts to link vulnerable populations with basic needs
like, food, healthcare, housing, and equality all which reflect article 25 of the Universal Declaration
of Human Rights (United Nations, 2014). Social workers wear many hats, and have established roles
in many institutions like hospitals, schools, nursing homes, acting as liaisons between the
establishments and individuals who seek their services (Reichert, 2007).
2. What social work practices might constrain human rights?
The Social work is a profession not only rewards merit, but there is also a monetary gain. The
majority of qualified social workers are employed by local government agencies which can create a
conflict of interest because of their obligation, and commitment to their employer. The government
agencies have their own political and financial agenda that can be

TOPIC – BARRIERS TO CRITICAL THINKING (PEER PRESSURE)
THESIS
Peer pressure is a very real issue that affects many of the teenagers of the world today. Society
offers many misleading advertisements that seem to lead teens in all the wrong directions. If the
youth of today are more educated, the future of our world will be a lot better.

have in common. Some can't escape it because it is almost everywhere. Peer pressure is defined as
the way that people of the same social group can influence on another individual to take a certain

boulder could once be compared to the painstaking task called research. However, as technology
has advanced, humanity has innovated endless global networks of connections to bring the world to

society is somewhat skeptical of the overwhelming expansion of the Internet, companies such as
Google have not only provided efficiency, but have guaranteed a future of advancement and vast
knowledge throughout the global community. As minds of mankind have fashioned pioneering
technology throughout history, they have always been met with some criticism; however, countless
numbers of them have succeeded in the face of doubt. Nicholas Carr wrote an article about the
effects of Google, and relates to these historical events. "[After] The arrival of Gutenberg 's printing

lead to intellectual laziness, making men 'less studious' and weakening their minds". Although those
around Gutenberg were skeptical of the effects his innovation may cause on society, books actually
brought forth a new age of intelligence and more access to learning. The use of the Internet spreads
like a common cold, and many fear its massive existence. However, Carr realizes that Google may
turn out to be beneficial to us all.

16. The Help Character Analysis
"Ever morning, until you die in the ground, you gone have to make a decision. You gone have to
ask yourself, am I gone believe what them fools say about me today?" (Stockett 73). This quote is
from Constantine, who was an influential person to Skeeter in the novel The Help. She is
illustrating how hard it can be to live in an area where diversity makes you an outcast. Throughout
this book the hardships of being alienated are obvious and daunting; this can be seen through the loss
of loved ones, white privilege, and personal relationships. Loss of a loved one is one of the many
themes that was portrayed in the book The Help. One of the many losses that is brought up
numerous times, is when Skeeter loses her childhood maid Constantine. Throughout the book
Skeeter was determined to find out the truth about Constantine's disappearance. By the end of the
book she finds out Constantine was forced out by Skeeter's mother. Skeeter also loses her first love.
When Stuart finally gets down on one knee Skeeter feels the pressure to tell him about the book she
has written. As I would suspect Stuart's response was "I don't... think I can marry somebody I don't
know" (Stockett 449), ending their relationship in its entirety. Celia also experienced several losses
throughout the book. With Minny as a witness, Celia lost several of her babies through
miscarriage. She became depressed and felt completely broken; she even tried to drink molasses
as a remedy to prevent miscarriages. In the beginning she refused to tell her husband, but by the
end she chooses to share the bad news. Lastly Aibileen tragically lost her son Treelore along with
Mae Mobley witch was one of the babies she was watching. Aibileen's son was only twenty–four
years old when he was struck down by a tractor trailer at work. By the time Aibileen found out it
was too late. These are all prime examples of how the book portrays the loss of loved ones. Along
with the loss of loved ones there was also a constant theme of white privilege. Although the book
was written to bring awareness to white privilege there were many cases of racism towards blacks.
One of the many examples of white privileges, was when Hilly tried to convince all the white
households to get a

With regards to my personal life, I have been particularly blessed to have experienced a joyful and
easy–going life. I was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California and later moved to Ventura, a
city just south of Santa Barbara. As a result, its safe to assume that I've been and will always be a

Furthermore, I wouldn't that I have a wide array of hobbies, however I more so have a set of
hobbies which I focus on at an extremely high level with a large degree of proficiency. To further
explain, two hobbies that I particularly enjoy are creating and playing music, as well as writing.
With regards to music, I have been playing guitar for over a year now, and I can honestly say it
has had one of the most profound effects upon my life imaginable. Music offers the only outlet
that I can fathom which can allow to forget about the world around me. All the problems I am
having, all the issues of the world that can bog me down, are eliminated because once I pick up the
guitar, I'm essentially one with the instrument, all the focus of my human psyche is upon the music
being played and if it's particularly good, I'll maniacally write it down to preserve it. Which is an

Watching this film Bird by Bird about this writer named Annie, showed us how she takes her life
and writing as free flowing but also have the opposite side of having road blocks with hard to
swallow situations .It is rather interesting how she expresses her writing in a such real raw vibe that
people can make a connection from her writing. They way she handles herself in real life transfers
onto how she approaches her writing, which to me I find it a rare quality in a creative person in this
type of area. Why I find it is rare is because usually a writer has a format to go about to write a short
story or any other format there is rules to go by but she however does not apply that in fact she
does the complete opposite. How she goes towards writing is by emotion and does not sweat the fact
whatever idea she trying to jot down on paper she is not worrying about having the idea to be
perfect in the minutes she is taking to get her idea on paper. From the film it showed Annie
handled her life towards writing in a passionate way in every aspect in her life. Through her life
she carried herself in a positive way no matter what hardship life threw at her she used this as a
source to create great novels with layers of emotion and complexity. This made her audience gravitate

20. Globalisation and International Integration
Globalisation refers to the process of international integration and connection between countries,
which occurs globally, affecting many aspects of society such as economic, cultural, social,
political and religious. Globalisation has been a continual and growing process for centuries;
although the process has developed at a faster pace since the beginning of the 20th century. For the
purpose of this essay, I will be assessing how the process of globalisation has affectedtourism, with
particular focus on tourism in Turkey.
Tourism is believed to have originated in the UK, as a result of the Industrial Revolution. The
concept of travel as a way of spending one's leisure time was promoted primarily to factory owners
and traders, also referred to as the new middle class.
With the growth of international trade and subsequently electronic commerce, tourism has now
become one of the world's fastest growing industries. Countries that excel in the tourism sector can
benefit from stronger infrastructure and economy; creating jobs and supporting the local trade. The
Middle East and Asia had the largest growth of tourism in 2010, although Europe still had the largest
volume of tourists. Studies have shown that there is a positive correlation between the level of
tourism in a country, and the countries' position in the global context.
Globalisation has massively affected the tourism industry, with the advancements in technology
allowing for people to travel great distances
