2. E4 is a British T.V channel, which was launched as a pay-tv with channel 4. 'E' stands for entertainment, and it's aimed at 15-35year olds. Their is aim to
provide a cutting edge for young audiences. They aim at young audiences by making sure they remain engaged and they want to entertain a young audience
to make sure that they keep interested in the programmes they show and continue to watch this channel. They've gained a very strong reputation by show
casting American series for young audiences. The programme is on Freeview, Sky, DSAT and Cable also having it in HD would increase the audience to watch
it as it's accessible.
The programme features series such as Inbetweeners and Misfits which are both written by older writers who are influence by youth to make the target
audience of younger people interested and able to relate to the programmes. This engages with audiences as it would attract them, and the dialogue isn't
strained at therefore is aimed at these type of audiences.
Characters in Skins, Misfits and The Inbetweeners are like teenagers now a days. There's a balance which E4 is being able to meet as the character's don't
sound exaggerated. This captures the audiences mind and would get the audience too believe the show is actually for them.
Pre-watershed is before 9 pm showing and has no swearing or nudity so young viewers aren't able to see it. The scheduling before 9 pm are shown below,
there are a lot of repeats but what is noticeable is that for an example their are two repeats of 'The Big Bang Theory' and then a new episode later on. This
gives a chance for audiences who haven't had the time to watch it, mostly who have busy lifestyles aimed at audiences above 20 years old. So they can just
tune in the evening whilst they are relaxing, and are able to watch their show without any problems.
Skins and Misfits have time and budget. As E4 can fill most of its schedule with repeats and therefore are able to concentrate on the home-made hits.
However, it's beneficial to have a few very good shows than all shows just doing 'okay.' E4's episodes are funny, sad and believable. Which would want the
audience to watch it as they can perhaps relate to a few things, or see it as banter (comedy) and just unwind and relax.

later evening as the channel only starts at 7pm. Comedy is a main genre but they also show programmes from the
fantasy, supernatural, sport and cartoon genre for different audiences to engage in.
‘Russell Howard’s Good News’ is a comedy programme that is done to almost take the mickey out of the latest
news stories that surround the United Kingdom. This is how the younger and older audience can be attracted as
there is both comedy and news coming from this show. Being Human is a comedy-drama that looks to attract an
audience of teens who are interested in comedy and fantasy. It has a werewolf, ghost and a vampire that will bring
out the fantasy of the programme and let viewers watch something that is more unusual.
Merlin is another drama but this time is more family orientated and is a part of the medieval fantasy. This is a
programme set out to appeal to families so that they can sit down and watch it together of an evening whilst also
appealing to the younger generation in general.
The Fades is supernatural drama that is about spirits and how one person can see them, this will appeal to
kids/young teenagers that would like to watch about fantasy and see what happens when someone becomes
supernatural.

sport, news and many other programmes. It is displayed all day, everyday and offers many different TV series for
people to sit down and enjoy.
Downton Abbey is a popular drama aimed to satisfy an adult audience as they are the main people it is set out to
entertain for of a night. It is a drama that represents the lives of a family and their servants who are having their
lives effected by events in history. Doc Martin is another drama but falls into the category of comedy and appeals
to, again, an older audience whilst showing humour that only adults may understand. The Vampire Diaries is a
supernatural drama that looks to appease a teenage audience and mainly females in doing so.

is why it is one of the leading television channels as most people in Britain tend to watch programmes from ITV.
