Jan: this is incase you need some facts.
Alternative story when appropriate2:23amTim Kenworthy is putting the finishing touches to painted signs that will help his mob of young people to find their way to a Sunday morning junior soccer game where he and his friends are helping with coaching and running a fundraising barbecue. Tim’s Big Help Mob is a group of young people who are “hooked” on volunteering.Big Help Mob is working to transform volunteering from an activity for die-hard do-gooders and activists into something that everyone just does on the weekend with the friends because it’s fun and it makes you feel good and it’s a way to be of use to other people.Tim is the founder of Youth Tree, a Perth-based, rent-a-crowd of ordinary young people who do extraordinary things.Tim is an FYA Young Social Pioneer.Research: Whilst the percentage of adults volunteering has been increasing, the average number of hours volunteered per person has been in decline. In Victoria the percentage of adult volunteers increased from 23.6 per cent in 1995 to 35.1 per cent in 2006. Over the same period the average number of hours volunteered per person declined from 74 to 56 hours. The highest rate of volunteering in the population is in the 35 to 44 years age group (43 per cent), followed by the 45 to 54 years age group (38 per cent). People aged between 18 and 34 volunteer at a rate of around 30 per cent.(ABS: Voluntary Work in Australia, 2006).
