Human reproduction involves two different sex cells: a female
ovum and a male sperm.
Each cell carries genetic information. Children have genetic
code from their parents.
Stages:
- Fertilisation
- Development of the embryo
- Development of the foetus
- Birth
4. 1. FERTILISATION
• The man’s penis is inserted into the woman’s vagina.
• The sperm are deposite there. Then, they swim up the vagina
to the ovum.
• Only one sperm can fertilise an ovum.
• Once the ovum is fertilised, the cells will start to divide and
multiply. This ball of cells is called zygote.
5. 1. FERTILISATION
• Scientific Alternatives:
• Artificial insemination : it is the introduction of
sperms into the female's uterus for the purpose
of achieving a pregnancy.
• In vitro fertilization : is a process by which an
ovum is fertilised by a sperm outside the body.
After this, it's introduced in woman's body.
6. 2. DEVELOPMENT OF EMBRYO
• After fertilisation, the zygote travels to the
uterus where its cells carry on dividing and
multiplying until they become an embryo.
• It fixes into the uterus and it will continue to
grow.
7. 3. DEVELOPMENT OF THE FOETUS
• After nine weeks, all organs have formed and the embryo
develops into a foetus.
• The foetus floats in a sac of amniotic fluid which protect its.
• The foetus recives oxygen and nourishment (food) from
mother’s placenta.
• The baby is connected to the placenta by the umbilical cord.
