2. What is COMPUTER?
is a digital electronic device that
processes data through a series of
commands into information and
storage. It can perform
mathematical and logical
operations, and process large
volumes of data at high speed.

3. A Computer has four basic functions:
Accept data
Processes data
Produce output
Stores data

4. Computer System
 refers to a complete working computer. It includes not
only the computer but also any software and
peripheral devices that are necessary to make the
computer function.
System Software
 is a catch-all term for the programs that handle the
running of a computer’s hardware.
 Operating System Utilities

5. Operating system
 a program that conducts the communication between
the various pieces of hardware like the video card,
printer, the mother board, sound card, and the
applications.
Utility program
 Perform tasks related to the maintaining of a
computer’s health-hardware or data.

 Male – with one or more exposed pins
 Female – with holes in which the male connector can
be inserted

 Input/Output (I/O) – refers to the communication
between an information processing system (such as
computer and the outside world – a human or another
information processing system.
 Port – serves as an interface between the computer
and other computers or peripheral devices. It is a
specialized outlet on a piece of equipment to which a
plug or cables connect.
