Plant perennials that are resistant to slug and snail infestations. Slugs and snails are voracious
eaters that can destroy a plant literally overnight. They gravitate towards perennials with smooth
thin leaves, particularly on younger plants. Some varieties of perennials are not preferred by snails
and slugs, particularly perennials that have hairy, tough leaves or a taste that isn't appetizing. A few
great choices are achillea, campanula, and heuchera. Other options from which you can choose are
hellebourus and euphorbia.
In a place that's dark, pre-soak the seeds. Place some seeds in your smaller pots and add water
almost to the brim. The water will hydrate the sends, giving them a head start once you plant them.
This will also give your seeds a much better chance to survive and mature.
You should divide irises. Overgrown clumps of irises can be divided up to increase your numbers of
this lovely flower. When the foliage dies, take the bulbous irises and lift them. If you split the bulbs
that you pull up, and replant them, they will bloom the following year. Split rhizomes with a knife.
Throw away the center after carefully cutting new sprouts from the exterior. If done properly, each
piece that remains for planting should have a minimum of one viable offshoot. Replant your pieces
right away.
Always protect yourself from the sun when you are outdoors working in the garden; you can do this
by wearing clothes that will shield you from the sun. Wear sunglasses, wide-brimmed hats, and
sunblock. When you protect yourself against the sun's rays, you are more likely to avoid both skin
cancer and sunburn.
To create an attractive, quintessentially English garden, you need to use a mixture of different plants
that all grow to varying heights in each bed. If you only use uniform plants, your bed will look boring
and flat.
