Why exposition text using
simple present tense ?
because the exposition text is a
text that conveys general
opinions based on the truth / fact.
NB: However, this is not an absolute rule. It means
that you can use other tenses and adjust it to the
context of the sentence.
10
simple present tense
11
Smoking is really good for tobacco
companies because they make much money
from smoking habit.
However, it is not good for everybody else.
IS SMOKING GOOD FOR US?
Conjunctions
(kata penghubung)
12
In the exposition text, there is a
structure of the author's argument
related to the discussion of the topic.
Therefore, expository texts often use
conjunctions to link two parts of a
sentence together.
Ex: Because it rains, I wear a raincoat.
I wear a raincoat because it rains.
13
Addition (penambahan)
ex: besides, in addition
(selain itu)
Further (lebih lanjut).
Time (waktu)
ex: second (kedua),
then (lalu), next
(selanjutnya).
Comparisons
(perbandingan)
ex: but (tetapi), vice versa
(sebaliknya), meanwhile
(sementara itu), on the
other hand (disisi lain).
Cause-effect
(sebab-akibat) = the
cause of an event/
reason
ex: because (oleh karena itu),
although (meskipun), as a result
(akibatnya), so (jadi).
14
A conjunction is a type/part of connective. In
this case, conjunctions are used in order to
link two parts of a sentence together. The
most common conjunctions are the words and,
but and or. Ex: He is a very strong man by body
but he is very weak by heart.
Connective is not necessarily as a
conjunction. It links the sentence to a
previous one therefore creates cohesion
throughout a text. It stand on their own (in
other words not linked to a clause) and
usually appear at the start of the
sentence. Ex: On the other hand, there is
mounting evidence to suggest that aliens do
exist.

The Power of Music in Our Life
Do you agree that music is important in our life? Yes I do, music has certain roles completing our day
to day activities. Here are some reasons why music is heard everywhere and anywhere.
Firstly, music is a way to express feelings. When we fall in love, the kind of music we listen to will be
all about love. When we’re sad, we will go for music that is melancholic in nature and immerse ourselves in
the sadness. When we’re happy, we will choose songs with happy tunes too.
Songs can help to memorize the last experiences. A favorite song is a powerful documentary. People
with Alzheimer or impaired brain would remember details about songs they were familiar with. For
example, an elderly woman who couldn’t even remember her husband’s name would remember the
details of her favorite song; when it was played, how it made her feel and things about the song that made it
especially memorablefor her.
Further, music can unite people for a cause and it can also change the world. A song with good lyrics
and striking deep chords can stimulate the universal feeling of all people. We can see it in the case of the
famous and legendary Michael Jackson’s ‘Heal the World’. It can arouse humanism of a lot of people in this
world.
So, what will the world be like without music? It will be lonely.
