Essay about Socialism
Socialism
Socialism is a type of economic system, a political movement, and a social theory. Socialism is based
on the idea that governments should own and control a nation's resources rather than individuals.
Socialism was first used to describe opposition to the free enterprise and market economies. The
Industrial Revolution was the cause of many social problems. Long work hours, low pay, and poor
working conditions caused
Americans to first consider socialism. With government involvement in business, fairer treatment for
all was feasible. Most countries today have socialist parties, many have socialist governments, and
others who are in between have adopted socialist ideas.
Communism and socialism are...show more content...
It is disagreement among socialists that has made for a wide spectrum of ideas, possibly making it
more difficult for socialism to exist.
Socialism and Karl Marx are two words that belong together. Marx was the most influential socialist
of the 1800's. Marx expressed his ideas in the
Communist Manifesto. He believed that all history is a series of struggles between the ruling and
the working classes. Marx predicted that the ruling class would be overthrown and predicted the
working class would set up a society based on common ownership.
Socialism has never been very strong in the United States. Because of the opportunity for even the
poor to become successful, socialism has never been able to grow. The strongest movement might
have been during World War I. socialists tried to group, but because of problems at hand nothing
was accomplished. After World War I a complete collapse of socialism occurred.
Today the U.S. still practices a small amount of socialism. Government regulates and controls many
private businesses, provides welfare, and strives to maintain a high employment rate. The
government also uses its strong taxing, spending, and credit powers. Yet the United States has fewer
socialist features than any other industrialized nation.
Like many other people, I feel there are pro's and con's to socialism.
Socialism would generally make for a more

Summary Of 'Shitty First Drafts'
Summary of "Shitty First Drafts"
Anne Lamott is a college graduate, the author of a variety of fiction and nonfiction titles, and has
been a columnist for a multitude of magazines. In an excerpt called "Shitty First Drafts," from her
book Bird by Bird, Anne tells the reader that almost every great writer uses horrendous first drafts to
create better drafts and works afterwards.
She begins by pointing out that writing is not an easy process with a clear path; according to Anne
it is something that almost everyone, even professional writers, struggle with. She explains that the
only way she can begin to write is with horrible first drafts because they are private, can be written
more loosely than typical essays, and can lead to a more defined

In Simon Young's essay "Universities, Governments and Industry: Can the Essential Nature of
Universities Survive the Drive to Commercialize?" Young implies many universities increase their
focus on commercializing rather than focusing to increase a higher branch of learning for university
students. Throughout the essay Young voices his concern for this issue through the use of statistics,
concrete facts, research and by acknowledging the issue Young is able to inform his readers about
the increase rate of commercialization from universities which he believes is a universities purpose.
Young notes 40 years of his life were spent at Universities and this allows the gain of credibility.

technology trasnfer office..." (218). By stating a formal opinion Young is able to show
commercialization has had an icrease throughout the years and justifies this by presenting statistical
facts. Young also implies that universities are interseted in commercialization whenever there ae
profits to be made. Young also describes a report from the Canadian Association ofUniversity
Teachers which suggests that academic medicine in danger. By describing this report Young is
successful in showing that researchers are interested in anti–depressants because they make more
money vs. psychotherapy which Young writes have the same effect on treatment. By including this
report in his essay Young is able to show his concern for the decreased attention in psychotherapy
which can possibly jeopardize the ethics behind research. Once again Young shows that research
advocates would rather make profit through commercialization. Young begins his essay by defining
the word university from a dictionary. Young uses this definition to remind his readers about what a
university should be and later uses concrete research to explain why that definition cannot be used
today because of

Economic Systems Essay
Introduction
Economic systems are organized way in which a state or nation allocates its resources and
apportions goods and services in the national community. An economic system is slackly defined as
country's plan for its services, goods produced, and the exact way in which its economic plan is
carried out. There are three types of economic systems exist, they are command economy, market
economy, and mixed economy. Command economy is also sometimes calledplanned economy. The
expectations of this type of economy is that all major decisions that related to the construction or
production, distribution, commodity and service prices are all made by the government. However,
in market economy, national and state governments play a...show more content...
Businesses can decide which goods to produce and in what quantity and consumers can decide
what they want to purchase and at what price. The role of the state is limited to ensure right
precision in the prices charged by the sellers. Prices also have the function to allocate and
distribute a country's resources. Market leads to complete effectiveness bringing about the best
possible distribution of a country's resources in a perfect world. This would only happen in a
state of equilibrium and there is a unique price for every commodity. But in a realistic world
which is imperfect by nature, prices are never at equilibrium and very unstable depending upon
the vagaries of the market forces. This generally harms people living below the poverty line. It is
impossible for them to pay high prices in cases of demand shortage. Thus, the free market model
is not a viable option in developing countries which has a large number of poor. Besides, producers
are aim to minimize profit and maximize rent of production. Examples of countries that are using
this economy system are Hong Kong, USA, and UK. Many developing countries like India and
China are moving towards totally free–market economy. The command economy is government
directed. The market forces have very little say in such an economy. There is no private property.
On the other hand, a command economy aims at using all available resources for developing either

They Say I Say Summary
They Say/I Say Review Many college students find themselves struggling, while trying to write
papers in their English classes. This book was written to help you though these struggles. They say
/I say by Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein is a book that was designed to help students be better
writers. I think that this book is absolutely a huge help to anyone in need of becoming a much more
confident and better writer. This book has helped me learn how to write more structured sentences
and how to form them in ways that sound better and are also more grammatically correct than
before. I have learned how to properly demonstrate and use many writing techniques such as
making quotations, playing the believing game, how to write strong summaries, how to plant a
"naysayer", and incorporate "so what?" and "who cares?" into my writing. This book can be
extremely helpful to anyone in need of assistance or for people interested in...show more content...
It teaches you different ways to summarize things such as playing the "believing game", which is
basically where you write a summary of something that you have read. An example of this would
be of me writing a summary of a chapter in this book. In this chapter, the authors discuss how they
want you to put yourself in the person you are summarizing's shoes and doing that requires you to
know your topic well. It also states that you should always know where you are headed with your
summary. They also say you should use signal verbs for making a claim or getting your point
across. Here is an example of me playing the believing game, by summarizing why my friend
would like video games. X likes video games because he thinks they are very fun. He enjoys them
because of the cool graphics, the sound effects and the game content. He states that getting to
watch a story go by in a video game that you are playing is like you're living in it. He argues that

Out of the three goals, (Personal, educational, and professional) I chose two of the goals that I am
focusing on and that is my personal and educational goals. For my personal goals, I want to create
a big picture of what I plan to do in life. Then I want to break them down in order to reach my
goals, then once I have them together, then I would start working on them to achieve them. For
example(Specific and Measurable goals), I plan on finding a job that has great benefits and the best
rate of pay, and one that does not require working on weekends(Monday–Friday only), and not
working overtime....show more content...
I plan on earning my Master's Degree within a year of Graduation. While I am currently in school, I
will rely on my instructors, academic counselors, graduation team, the GCU Online Library, and the
school's other resources that will give me additional help when I need them. If I feel lost or a subject
seems too difficult, then I will ask e–mail my instructors and let he or she know that I am having
difficulty and that I need help. If I am feeling overwhelmed about school, I will seek the help and
advice of my academic counselor to help me come up with a solution to help me feel relaxed and not
stressed with taking online classes. I know that I will be successful if I always ask and seek help
here at GCU.
After all of this being said, I believe that I am a D1 in the development level, which is "The
Enthusiastic Beginner" (Low Competence/High Commitment). I would be enthusiastic and be
highly committed to doing my job if I were to have a certain position or even as a student in
school on certain levels in my program, but at the same time, I would and still do not yet know
all of the ropes yet. Right now I consider myself a very curious, inexperienced person who does
quite have the skills required for the job in hand or the things that I have learned in school so far,
but I am yet hopeful that I will learn to develop and learn more and more skills in the near future.

The Movie "Radio" Analysis Essay
Radio, Film analysis
The dramatic and uplifting movie "Radio" starring Cuba Gooding JR. and Ed Harris, is based on
the true life story of James Robert Kennedy, a k a Radio; a mentally retarded young
African–American who spends his days pushing a shopping cart around the streets of Anderson, a
small South Carolina town, collecting junk and old radios.
The movie starts with the heartbreaking scene of Radio pushing his cart around the town, in his
own little world; people are ignoring him, and a lady pulls her daughter out of the way, running
towards the opposite sidewalk. Every day Radio walks by the school, watching the football team
training. While lingering by the fence of the high school football field one afternoon, the boy catches

For Christmas, Radio spends time with Coach Jones' family, and receives presents from people
all over the town. The next day after Christmas Radio does what probably not many would do, he
took all the presents and put them at people's door, wishing them "Marry Christmas". The joy that
there was on his face while he was doing that was greater than when he received the presents.
Through this action Radio teaches an amazing lesson of giving, loving, and selflessness. After his
mother dies, Radio is heartbroken and alone. Coach Jones continues to be by his side, and in a
moment of honesty, decides to share with his daughter why was he doing what he was doing with
Radio. He tells her the story about when he was a young boy and while training through the
woods, he saw a boy about his age, kept inside a fenced area. He did not know what was wrong
with him, but though he ran that route for two years, he "never did anything about it". Radio
appears to be his second chance to do something, a chance to redeem himself, to make a difference.
Though more people become sensible to Radio, the coach's mentoring incites angry opposition from
a local banker, Frank Clay whose bullying son, Johnny is the town's star athlete. Frank and his
friends think that the football team is distracted by Radio's cheerleading and that he attracts too
much attention. When was

Summary of Unteaching the Five-paragraph Essay
In an excerpt of Unteaching the Five–Paragraph Essay," Marie Foley reveals how the
Five–Paragraph Essay formula contradicts writing instructor's most basic goals. Foley shows that
the formula deters from generating individual thinking. In today's society, essays are used by
millions of people in order to express their different ideas. The Five–Paragraph Essay formula was
originally developed to help retain the efficiency and clarity of the essay. Foley, however, believes
that this process eventually separates the student from his or her written expression and should be
used only as a first step tool for beginning student writers. Foley insists that the formula blocks
discovery, squelches authenticity and undermines the reader's need for...show more content...
The formula is comfortable and familiar to them. It becomes imprinted.
Foley contends that in addition to blocking discovery, the Five–Paragraph Essay formula squelches
the student's authenticity. Foley states, "filling the structure with the requisite 500 words, they go
through the motions of writing, but they seldom create something authentically theirs," (232). Foley
knew that students feel much more at liberty to freely express themselves in their personal journals
and in their letters to friends, but take on a different identity for the essay. The students' character,
personality, and convictions are locked away until given the opportunity to free write.
On a more serious level, coherence is undermined while being one of the writer's and reader's most
basic need. "The problem is not that the Five–Paragraph formula produces incoherence but rather
that it limits students to a superficial, predictable level or coherence," (232) states Foley. This
allows for students to throw any three liberally related ideas together for the body of the essays.
Once students fabricate a thesis statement that elucidates for their three ideas, the students feel they
have mastered structure. Foley states, "To be asked merely to enumerate three aspects of any topic
relieves the student of the need to probe relationships... it robs them of any motivation to do so,"
(232). Juxtaposition is not

Perspectives
Life Span & Introduction to Sociology
PSYC–2314–S03
In class we have been discussing the analogy of perspectives. A perspective is a way of seeing,
also thought of as a 'point of view'. This mental view or outlook can both enhance and constrain
how we view the world in our own eyes. In the field of psychology and sociology there are many
ways to perceive our world in which we live. No one perspective alone can define the world. Each
perspective has its own distinctive strengths and blind spots. In class we have discussed different
theories and analogies to better understand the complexity of perspectives. Perspectives will both
facilitate and constrain perception. A good example of this statement is the Burke...show more

Even when that one perspective may not be the most accurate way of viewing something in a
particular situation, it can be tempting neglect other perspectives or "tools". The example given
in class was Freud and his psychosexual theories. Freud believed that everything we did was a
result of our sexual desires. Freud's only "tool", or perspective, was this belief , and he used it
when viewing everything, even when it may have not been the best "tool for the job". Most of us
have heard the term "seeing is believing", but in class we discussed that "believing is seeing".
When you already believe something and have an idea implanted in your memory it will alter
what you think you are seeing. In class we observed many slides of different pictures portraying
how believing is seeing. One specific example from the slide show was one image that contained
two completely different pictures depending on how you looked at the picture. Before showing
us the image for the first time the pervious slide stated "Cowboys Crossing the Creek". When the
image appeared you automatically saw cowboys on horses crossing a creek. Then we were shown
a slide stating "Faces Everywhere". This time when the same exact image was shown for the
second time, you saw faces everywhere in the image. This is because you already had an idea placed
in your mind causing you to see what you already believe. Referring to the familiar

Economic Social Sustainability Essay
Is economic social and environmental sustainability achievable in today's world?
Introduction
The aim of this paper is to try and give an understanding of "sustainability" to the reader and look
into the various ideas surrounding the 3 pillars of a sustainable world. I am going to take you
through the 3 topics in question separately before looking into whether or not sustainability is now
even possible given the destruction we have already caused to the planet. I will also look into the
millennium development goals as set out by the United Nations where in goal 7 they aimed to
"ensure environmental sustainability". Towards the end of this essay I will give critical analysis to
whether or not I believe personally sustainability is...show more content...
Realistically for something to be sustainable it must be able to continue forever. One breakthrough
definition of sustainability came about in 1987 and reads:
"Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future
generations to meet their own needs."
(,. (2009). What is sustainable development?. Available: http://www.worldbank.org/depweb/english
/sd.html. Last accessed 2/5/2014.)
For all round complete sustainability you need the three pillars of economic, environmental and
social sustainability all to be in sync and working as a whole sustainable connection. When one fails
we cannot have complete sustainability.
Economic sustainability
Economic sustainability is a term used to identify different approaches that use resources at an
economy's disposal by the best means possible. The concept is to encourage the use of resources in
an efficient and responsible way; it is also the aim that long term benefits will come about through
these implementations.
In most cases economic sustainability is measured in financial terms. The worth of assets and
resources are often portrayed by the use of currency to display the total profit that has been
produced by the resourceful use of those assets. Most people today spend above there means which
they are not living sustainable lives as they cannot continue to spend

Summary Of Reflective Essay
I have truly enjoyed this semester in Mrs. Jones' English 1105 class. This is my second time
having her as an instructor and over the past two semester she had helped me immensely in
sharpening my writing skills. During this semester we wrote serval different essays, each
focusing on different aspects of English and Writing. The first essay of this class was one that was in
MLA format while I became comfortable with MLA in my English 1101 course this was a good
refresher on it, in this essay we also learned about visual analyses. Essay number two was about
memes and fallacies and this was our first essay in APA format. On our third and final essay we had
more free range on the topic and style of our paper. Each of these essay helped me improve...show

My meme focused on women's equality in the work force and the wage gap and how it was
acceptable. While forming my argument against this meme I learned the importance of having
true, reliable data to base your argument off of; in my first draft of my Meme Fallacy essay I used
a lot of research that would be best termed as personal testimonies, instead of research. When we
did a peer review in class my partner brought to my attention that if I added more facts it would
strengthen my argument, so I did a complete over haul on my paper to make my argument based
more on research. A first for me in this essay was using fallacies, I actually had to read three
different website entries about them before I fully understood what they were and what their
purpose was. Now, I am very confident in using fallacies in writing and I feel that they add
interesting points in all argumentative papers. Another first for me in this essay was using APA
formatting. When I brought my first draft into peer view my formatting was a mess but luckily I
had a good partner to help me straighten it out. Now that I have used both MLA and APA, I
personally feel that APA better fits my style of writing and I am glad I got exposed to APA early
because I plan on going into the science field were APA is most common style of formatting. The
last major point that we focused on in this essay was our personal writing style and how we could
better define it to make a better connection with our writing. In this essay we had to pick three
places where we defined our personal style in our writing and then we would need to highlight
them. When Mrs. Jones first gave this criteria for this paper I was slightly overwhelmed because I
had never thought about my writing style, I just wrote. But as I looked back over pervious papers I

The Digital Age Essay
The Digital Age
The digital age is staring us in the face from the near future. We already see countless instances of
digital technology emerging more and more in our every day lives. Cell phones are equipped with
voice recognition software, and are able to take photographs and send them wirelessly across the
globe, almost instantaneously. When information is captured and transmitted into a digital format,
possibilities for that data become endless. Soon we will no longer be inconvenienced with reality;
all of our sensory shopping experiences will be converted to digital information and will be fed to
us through our computers. Digital information is in a much more malleable format. It can easily be

The information created will be able to be shared by anyone with a computer. The power base that
the digital age relies on for existence, is technology. The rapid developing technology is absolutely
necessary for the digital age to exist. Without super powerful microchips, and high bandwidth
transfer wires, the digital age would be a figment of our imagination. Digital technology is computer
based, so the millions of calculations per second, and ability to transfer large amounts of data over
long distances are absolutely necessary. Without computers, the data might be collected; but there
would be nothing to process and transfer the information.
When new technology is invented, it is sometimes distributed to a society that might not be ready
for it. Few corporations consider this and are only interested in spreading their product to the
consumer as soon as possible. New technology is often flawed and taken advantage of by
individuals who know how to manipulate it. This is a considerably large problem when dealing with
digital technology. Digital information is not a three dimension tangible object. So it is easily
tampered with and destroyed without people noticing. When the damage is finally noticed, the party
responsible is usually untraceable and in a completely different area of the world to begin with.
The potential value of this new technology seems almost

majors which did not prove to be significant influence on opinions. The open ended questions yielded
some interesting results. Most of the participants reported the media or media sources as mediums
through which they receive their information. Only two participants wrote down a school or the
education system as the medium for their knowledge.
There were not many problems obtaining data for this survey. The only major problem encountered,

reason I could never really cite my sources that well. Its something I knew how to do, but when it
came time to do it my mind went blank. When you went over everything on the bored that helped

  • 1. Essay about Socialism Socialism Socialism is a type of economic system, a political movement, and a social theory. Socialism is based on the idea that governments should own and control a nation's resources rather than individuals. Socialism was first used to describe opposition to the free enterprise and market economies. The Industrial Revolution was the cause of many social problems. Long work hours, low pay, and poor working conditions caused Americans to first consider socialism. With government involvement in business, fairer treatment for all was feasible. Most countries today have socialist parties, many have socialist governments, and others who are in between have adopted socialist ideas. Communism and socialism are...show more content... It is disagreement among socialists that has made for a wide spectrum of ideas, possibly making it more difficult for socialism to exist. Socialism and Karl Marx are two words that belong together. Marx was the most influential socialist of the 1800's. Marx expressed his ideas in the Communist Manifesto. He believed that all history is a series of struggles between the ruling and the working classes. Marx predicted that the ruling class would be overthrown and predicted the working class would set up a society based on common ownership. Socialism has never been very strong in the United States. Because of the opportunity for even the poor to become successful, socialism has never been able to grow. The strongest movement might have been during World War I. socialists tried to group, but because of problems at hand nothing was accomplished. After World War I a complete collapse of socialism occurred. Today the U.S. still practices a small amount of socialism. Government regulates and controls many private businesses, provides welfare, and strives to maintain a high employment rate. The government also uses its strong taxing, spending, and credit powers. Yet the United States has fewer socialist features than any other industrialized nation. Like many other people, I feel there are pro's and con's to socialism. Socialism would generally make for a more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Summary Of 'Shitty First Drafts' Summary of "Shitty First Drafts" Anne Lamott is a college graduate, the author of a variety of fiction and nonfiction titles, and has been a columnist for a multitude of magazines. In an excerpt called "Shitty First Drafts," from her book Bird by Bird, Anne tells the reader that almost every great writer uses horrendous first drafts to create better drafts and works afterwards. She begins by pointing out that writing is not an easy process with a clear path; according to Anne it is something that almost everyone, even professional writers, struggle with. She explains that the only way she can begin to write is with horrible first drafts because they are private, can be written more loosely than typical essays, and can lead to a more defined Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. In Simon Young's essay "Universities, Governments and Industry: Can the Essential Nature of Universities Survive the Drive to Commercialize?" Young implies many universities increase their focus on commercializing rather than focusing to increase a higher branch of learning for university students. Throughout the essay Young voices his concern for this issue through the use of statistics, concrete facts, research and by acknowledging the issue Young is able to inform his readers about the increase rate of commercialization from universities which he believes is a universities purpose. Young notes 40 years of his life were spent at Universities and this allows the gain of credibility. Young's audience are members of psychiatry and...show more content... It also suggests that the relationship between departmental chairs and students can be the cause of a decreasing relationship. Young in his essay presents statistical facts "...with a 126 per cent increase in revenues from licence royalties between 1999 and 2001. Most major universities have now a technology trasnfer office..." (218). By stating a formal opinion Young is able to show commercialization has had an icrease throughout the years and justifies this by presenting statistical facts. Young also implies that universities are interseted in commercialization whenever there ae profits to be made. Young also describes a report from the Canadian Association ofUniversity Teachers which suggests that academic medicine in danger. By describing this report Young is successful in showing that researchers are interested in anti–depressants because they make more money vs. psychotherapy which Young writes have the same effect on treatment. By including this report in his essay Young is able to show his concern for the decreased attention in psychotherapy which can possibly jeopardize the ethics behind research. Once again Young shows that research advocates would rather make profit through commercialization. Young begins his essay by defining the word university from a dictionary. Young uses this definition to remind his readers about what a university should be and later uses concrete research to explain why that definition cannot be used today because of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Economic Systems Essay Introduction Economic systems are organized way in which a state or nation allocates its resources and apportions goods and services in the national community. An economic system is slackly defined as country's plan for its services, goods produced, and the exact way in which its economic plan is carried out. There are three types of economic systems exist, they are command economy, market economy, and mixed economy. Command economy is also sometimes calledplanned economy. The expectations of this type of economy is that all major decisions that related to the construction or production, distribution, commodity and service prices are all made by the government. However, in market economy, national and state governments play a...show more content... Businesses can decide which goods to produce and in what quantity and consumers can decide what they want to purchase and at what price. The role of the state is limited to ensure right precision in the prices charged by the sellers. Prices also have the function to allocate and distribute a country's resources. Market leads to complete effectiveness bringing about the best possible distribution of a country's resources in a perfect world. This would only happen in a state of equilibrium and there is a unique price for every commodity. But in a realistic world which is imperfect by nature, prices are never at equilibrium and very unstable depending upon the vagaries of the market forces. This generally harms people living below the poverty line. It is impossible for them to pay high prices in cases of demand shortage. Thus, the free market model is not a viable option in developing countries which has a large number of poor. Besides, producers are aim to minimize profit and maximize rent of production. Examples of countries that are using this economy system are Hong Kong, USA, and UK. Many developing countries like India and China are moving towards totally free–market economy. The command economy is government directed. The market forces have very little say in such an economy. There is no private property. On the other hand, a command economy aims at using all available resources for developing either Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. They Say I Say Summary They Say/I Say Review Many college students find themselves struggling, while trying to write papers in their English classes. This book was written to help you though these struggles. They say /I say by Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein is a book that was designed to help students be better writers. I think that this book is absolutely a huge help to anyone in need of becoming a much more confident and better writer. This book has helped me learn how to write more structured sentences and how to form them in ways that sound better and are also more grammatically correct than before. I have learned how to properly demonstrate and use many writing techniques such as making quotations, playing the believing game, how to write strong summaries, how to plant a "naysayer", and incorporate "so what?" and "who cares?" into my writing. This book can be extremely helpful to anyone in need of assistance or for people interested in...show more content... It teaches you different ways to summarize things such as playing the "believing game", which is basically where you write a summary of something that you have read. An example of this would be of me writing a summary of a chapter in this book. In this chapter, the authors discuss how they want you to put yourself in the person you are summarizing's shoes and doing that requires you to know your topic well. It also states that you should always know where you are headed with your summary. They also say you should use signal verbs for making a claim or getting your point across. Here is an example of me playing the believing game, by summarizing why my friend would like video games. X likes video games because he thinks they are very fun. He enjoys them because of the cool graphics, the sound effects and the game content. He states that getting to watch a story go by in a video game that you are playing is like you're living in it. He argues that video games are the best thing Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Smart Goals Essay Smart Goals Essay Vanessa Goins Grand Canyon University MGT–605 (MGT–605–0103) Leadership Professor Andree Swanson March 21, 2013 Out of the three goals, (Personal, educational, and professional) I chose two of the goals that I am focusing on and that is my personal and educational goals. For my personal goals, I want to create a big picture of what I plan to do in life. Then I want to break them down in order to reach my goals, then once I have them together, then I would start working on them to achieve them. For example(Specific and Measurable goals), I plan on finding a job that has great benefits and the best rate of pay, and one that does not require working on weekends(Monday–Friday only), and not working overtime....show more content... I plan on earning my Master's Degree within a year of Graduation. While I am currently in school, I will rely on my instructors, academic counselors, graduation team, the GCU Online Library, and the school's other resources that will give me additional help when I need them. If I feel lost or a subject seems too difficult, then I will ask e–mail my instructors and let he or she know that I am having difficulty and that I need help. If I am feeling overwhelmed about school, I will seek the help and advice of my academic counselor to help me come up with a solution to help me feel relaxed and not stressed with taking online classes. I know that I will be successful if I always ask and seek help here at GCU. After all of this being said, I believe that I am a D1 in the development level, which is "The Enthusiastic Beginner" (Low Competence/High Commitment). I would be enthusiastic and be highly committed to doing my job if I were to have a certain position or even as a student in school on certain levels in my program, but at the same time, I would and still do not yet know all of the ropes yet. Right now I consider myself a very curious, inexperienced person who does quite have the skills required for the job in hand or the things that I have learned in school so far, but I am yet hopeful that I will learn to develop and learn more and more skills in the near future. The movie starts with the heartbreaking scene of Radio pushing his cart around the town, in his own little world; people are ignoring him, and a lady pulls her daughter out of the way, running towards the opposite sidewalk. Every day Radio walks by the school, watching the football team training. While lingering by the fence of the high school football field one afternoon, the boy catches ...show more content... For Christmas, Radio spends time with Coach Jones' family, and receives presents from people all over the town. The next day after Christmas Radio does what probably not many would do, he took all the presents and put them at people's door, wishing them "Marry Christmas". The joy that there was on his face while he was doing that was greater than when he received the presents. Through this action Radio teaches an amazing lesson of giving, loving, and selflessness. After his mother dies, Radio is heartbroken and alone. Coach Jones continues to be by his side, and in a moment of honesty, decides to share with his daughter why was he doing what he was doing with Radio. He tells her the story about when he was a young boy and while training through the woods, he saw a boy about his age, kept inside a fenced area. He did not know what was wrong with him, but though he ran that route for two years, he "never did anything about it". Radio appears to be his second chance to do something, a chance to redeem himself, to make a difference. Though more people become sensible to Radio, the coach's mentoring incites angry opposition from a local banker, Frank Clay whose bullying son, Johnny is the town's star athlete. Frank and his friends think that the football team is distracted by Radio's cheerleading and that he attracts too much attention. When was Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Summary of Unteaching the Five-paragraph Essay In an excerpt of Unteaching the Five–Paragraph Essay," Marie Foley reveals how the Five–Paragraph Essay formula contradicts writing instructor's most basic goals. Foley shows that the formula deters from generating individual thinking. In today's society, essays are used by millions of people in order to express their different ideas. The Five–Paragraph Essay formula was originally developed to help retain the efficiency and clarity of the essay. Foley, however, believes that this process eventually separates the student from his or her written expression and should be used only as a first step tool for beginning student writers. Foley insists that the formula blocks discovery, squelches authenticity and undermines the reader's need for...show more content... The formula is comfortable and familiar to them. It becomes imprinted. Foley contends that in addition to blocking discovery, the Five–Paragraph Essay formula squelches the student's authenticity. Foley states, "filling the structure with the requisite 500 words, they go through the motions of writing, but they seldom create something authentically theirs," (232). Foley knew that students feel much more at liberty to freely express themselves in their personal journals and in their letters to friends, but take on a different identity for the essay. The students' character, personality, and convictions are locked away until given the opportunity to free write. On a more serious level, coherence is undermined while being one of the writer's and reader's most basic need. "The problem is not that the Five–Paragraph formula produces incoherence but rather that it limits students to a superficial, predictable level or coherence," (232) states Foley. This allows for students to throw any three liberally related ideas together for the body of the essays. Once students fabricate a thesis statement that elucidates for their three ideas, the students feel they have mastered structure. Foley states, "To be asked merely to enumerate three aspects of any topic relieves the student of the need to probe relationships... it robs them of any motivation to do so," (232). A perspective is a way of seeing, also thought of as a 'point of view'. This mental view or outlook can both enhance and constrain how we view the world in our own eyes. In the field of psychology and sociology there are many ways to perceive our world in which we live. No one perspective alone can define the world. Each perspective has its own distinctive strengths and blind spots. In class we have discussed different theories and analogies to better understand the complexity of perspectives. Perspectives will both facilitate and constrain perception. A good example of this statement is the Burke...show more content... Even when that one perspective may not be the most accurate way of viewing something in a particular situation, it can be tempting neglect other perspectives or "tools". The example given in class was Freud and his psychosexual theories. Freud believed that everything we did was a result of our sexual desires. Freud's only "tool", or perspective, was this belief , and he used it when viewing everything, even when it may have not been the best "tool for the job". Most of us have heard the term "seeing is believing", but in class we discussed that "believing is seeing". When you already believe something and have an idea implanted in your memory it will alter what you think you are seeing. In class we observed many slides of different pictures portraying how believing is seeing. One specific example from the slide show was one image that contained two completely different pictures depending on how you looked at the picture. Before showing us the image for the first time the pervious slide stated "Cowboys Crossing the Creek". When the image appeared you automatically saw cowboys on horses crossing a creek. Then we were shown a slide stating "Faces Everywhere". This time when the same exact image was shown for the second time, you saw faces everywhere in the image. This is because you already had an idea placed in your mind causing you to see what you already believe. Referring to the familiar Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Introduction The aim of this paper is to try and give an understanding of "sustainability" to the reader and look into the various ideas surrounding the 3 pillars of a sustainable world. I am going to take you through the 3 topics in question separately before looking into whether or not sustainability is now even possible given the destruction we have already caused to the planet. The concept is to encourage the use of resources in an efficient and responsible way; it is also the aim that long term benefits will come about through these implementations. In most cases economic sustainability is measured in financial terms. The worth of assets and resources are often portrayed by the use of currency to display the total profit that has been produced by the resourceful use of those assets. • 13. Summary Of Reflective Essay I have truly enjoyed this semester in Mrs. Jones' English 1105 class. This is my second time having her as an instructor and over the past two semester she had helped me immensely in sharpening my writing skills. During this semester we wrote serval different essays, each focusing on different aspects of English and Writing. The first essay of this class was one that was in MLA format while I became comfortable with MLA in my English 1101 course this was a good refresher on it, in this essay we also learned about visual analyses. Essay number two was about memes and fallacies and this was our first essay in APA format. On our third and final essay we had more free range on the topic and style of our paper. Each of these essay helped me improve...show more content... My meme focused on women's equality in the work force and the wage gap and how it was acceptable. While forming my argument against this meme I learned the importance of having true, reliable data to base your argument off of; in my first draft of my Meme Fallacy essay I used a lot of research that would be best termed as personal testimonies, instead of research. When we did a peer review in class my partner brought to my attention that if I added more facts it would strengthen my argument, so I did a complete over haul on my paper to make my argument based more on research. A first for me in this essay was using fallacies, I actually had to read three different website entries about them before I fully understood what they were and what their purpose was. Now, I am very confident in using fallacies in writing and I feel that they add interesting points in all argumentative papers. Another first for me in this essay was using APA formatting. When I brought my first draft into peer view my formatting was a mess but luckily I had a good partner to help me straighten it out. Now that I have used both MLA and APA, I personally feel that APA better fits my style of writing and I am glad I got exposed to APA early because I plan on going into the science field were APA is most common style of formatting. The last major point that we focused on in this essay was our personal writing style and how we could better define it to make a better connection with our writing. In this essay we had to pick three places where we defined our personal style in our writing and then we would need to highlight them. When Mrs. Jones first gave this criteria for this paper I was slightly overwhelmed because I had never thought about my writing style, I just wrote. But as I looked back over pervious papers I had Get more content on HelpWriting.net

We already see countless instances of digital technology emerging more and more in our every day lives. Cell phones are equipped with voice recognition software, and are able to take photographs and send them wirelessly across the globe, almost instantaneously. When information is captured and transmitted into a digital format, possibilities for that data become endless. The information created will be able to be shared by anyone with a computer. The power base that the digital age relies on for existence, is technology. The rapid developing technology is absolutely necessary for the digital age to exist. Without super powerful microchips, and high bandwidth transfer wires, the digital age would be a figment of our imagination. Digital technology is computer based, so the millions of calculations per second, and ability to transfer large amounts of data over long distances are absolutely necessary. Without computers, the data might be collected; but there would be nothing to process and transfer the information. When new technology is invented, it is sometimes distributed to a society that might not be ready for it. Few corporations consider this and are only interested in spreading their product to the consumer as soon as possible. New technology is often flawed and taken advantage of by individuals who know how to manipulate it. This is a considerably large problem when dealing with digital technology. Digital information is not a three dimension tangible object. So it is easily tampered with and destroyed without people noticing. When the damage is finally noticed, the party responsible is usually untraceable and in a completely different area of the world to begin with. The truth is with every degree of increase in temperature a 100 more wildlife species are put in danger of extinction.
