1. How Kai the Taniwha was tricked. Retold by Akoia, Cohen, Devon, Jayden and Ngaremu.

2. Kai the Taniwha had a woman tied up.

3. Kai made the woman work hard.

4. She was tired of working hard so one day she cut herself free.

5. She ran through the bushes over the hill and into the village.

6. The villagers sat around a fire that night and made a plan to kill Kai the Taniwha.

7. The villagers built a house and told the Taniwha he could live in it with the woman.

8. While Kai was sleeping they lit the house on fire.

9. But Kai’s tail survived and wriggled into the forest. The children of Kai’s tail live today. They are the little tree lizards and just like Kai they can lose their tails.
