These are your NEED TO KNOWS for the novel Wuthering Heights:

   -   when it was written and why it was written
   -   the contextual influences on the writer and the work (political,
       philosophical, personal, historical, cultural, social)
   -   how the work was received originally and why
   -   how the work is received today and why
   -   the central ideas of the novel and how these reflect the Romantic ways of
       thinking (valuing of the imagination, individualism and idealism; a search for meaning
       through representations of the individual’s relationship with the natural world, and the
       wider social and political contexts; an examination or affirmation of the power of the
       imagination to inform, illuminate and transform human experience)
   -   the distinctive features of the text (writing style, characters, setting, plot
       structure, themes)
   -   how this text is similar or different to the set poems of Coleridge and the
       novel Northanger Abbey and the reasons for the similarities and
       differences
