2. Brief History of the Kings County S.Ct. Law Libray
• The law library was originally formed in the
1850s by 30 attorneys as a private collection.
• The law library was open only to members,
even after merged with the S.Ct. Lib. in 1880.
• In 1993, the Ofc. of Ct. Admin. opened the
law library to the public in April 1994.
• The law library is now organized under sections
813 and 814 of the the NYS Judiciary Law.

3. Who Was Nathan R. Sobel?
• Sobel was a beloved Brooklyn lawyer, judge,
and adviser to several state political leaders
whose career spanned seven decades.
• ''He was one of the most scholarly judges to sit
on the New York State Supreme Court in BK & in
BK Surrogate Court,'' said Judge E.R. Korman.
• No softie, Judge Sobel was a noted boxer who
competed in amateur competitions in the 1920s.

assess the utility of the current eResearch Portal.
• Redesign of the eResearch portal.
• Creation of a template for future library handouts
and redesign of a sampling of current handouts.
• Shadowing of various court proceedings and offices.
• Implementation of a Google SketchUp 3D Floor Map.
• Conducting reference interviews with patrons.
