1. 2012 EDUCATION WEEK PROPOSAL
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Title : 2012 Education Week Celebration Proposal
Rationale :
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 2399 dated February 25,1985
designating the second week ofDecember of every year as Education Week, the
Department of Education (DepEd) shall celebrateEducation Week nationwide
with the theme K to 12 Basic Education Program: Engaging Stakeholders and
Communities Forward on December 10-14, 2012.
DepEd has issued Memorandum 207, series of 2012, to announce the conduct of
an Education Week from December 10-14 as part of its efforts to reaffirm and
emphasize the role of education in empowering and developing the young into
becoming productive citizens of the country who are responsive to the needs of
the times to encourage every stakeholder to invest in education.
The K+12 program which was implemented last June 2012 celebration hopes to
improve the quality of high-school graduates by adding two more years to the
current 10-year basic curriculum. And every graduate of this program will benefit
from a reformed and updated curriculum that is focused on enabling every child
to achieve mastery of core competencies and skills.
It will also enhance the basic education system to full functionality to fulfill the
basic learning needs of students.
For education to truly serve its purpose, we need to establish partnerships among
all stakeholders, including those in the grassroots level. The idea tells us that the
entire community, not just parents, must actively participate in the upbringing of
children—for the good of the children and the greater good of the community.
Thus, 2012 Education Week Celebration will be held in response to the thrust of
the Department to strengthen cooperation among stakeholders in education to
support the necessary and significant changes to achieve quality and relevant
education. And also it will also be a time of gift giving for the Yuletide
season.Education Week has always been about celebrating education and the
importance of learning.
