ASSURE method
1-Teaching the months of the year to a 1st grade class, Special ed, 10 boys, 7
girls, 70% white 20% African-American and 10% Latino.7 students in the
class have mild to severe ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).
A: Analyze Learners

-Analyze students and find out what they know about the months of
the year.

-Use several different learning styles while teaching the months of the
year especially because they are special education students.
S: State Objectives
Students will learn the months of the year using a few different methods of
learning. First each student will get a calendar and as a class we will go over
it. Then kids will learn a song about all the months of the year using youtube.
We will get up from our seats and dance to the song. They will then have to
put each month in order on the board using magnates with each month on
them. Students will be able to accomplish this task on a 100% degree by the
end of 2 weeks.

Methods:
1. Get up and dance and sing to a song about the months.
2. Have each student get up and put each month in order on the board.

1. YouTube video with a song and dance to the months of the year.
Materials:
1. Computer
2. Magnates with each month of the year on them
U: Utilize Media and Materials
Students will be the ones using the magnates on the board. The teacher will
use the computer for the song. The teacher will have the song set up before
the class starts to be sure it all works and that the lesson goes smoothly.
Teacher will make sure that there is space in the classroom to be sure there
is room for them to dance. The teacher lastly prepare the learners for the
lessons by explaining what they are going to be doing and motivate them to
participate in the activities.
2. R: Require Learner Participation
Make sure that each lesson is helpful for all students. If one of the lessons is
not helpful to a student, make sure you have another teaching method to
ensure student learning.
E: Evaluate and Revise
Assess students and make sure that they know each month of the year.
Evaluate learners throughout the whole lesson to assure learning. If the
students aren’t picking the topic up as fast as they should, change the
teaching style. If students still don’t know the months of the year work on it a
little bit more and then move on.
