Introduction
The most effective method to develop the competence and skills of students is
through hands – on training – the on-the-job training. This process exposes the students
to the different fields and learned. Moreover, it allows the students to become familiar
and made known with the actual operation of the business and the state-of-the-art of the
facilities, equipment and technology used.
Confucius once said
"If all I do is hear, I will forget
If I hear and see, I will remember
If I hear, see and do, I will understand
Most students nowadays are not serious in their training. They don't plan ahead
and pick the best company that they can choose. Worst, they ended up cleaning the
desk of their superior or doing unrelated tasks.
Here is why students should not take OJT for granted:
If you will get a high evaluation grade, your employer might hire you when you
graduate. Your background OJT is very important when applying for a job. Oftentimes,
employers will ask you the relevance of your training to your course and to the position
you are applying for. Some companies will give you a monthly allowance if you are
doing well in your tasks. OJT will be your training ground. If you still have no idea on
what is meant to be a worker, OJT will give a hint of career realities. Your OJT superior
my recommend your skills to other companies whom he knows. It will give you a sense
of confidence that you can use when applying for a job after graduation. Help individuals
make informed career choices.
This Narrative report contains experiences, learning’s, insight gained and some

The story of Autoprint is one of visionary thinking and marketing coupled with the will to
innovate. Beginning originally as a small letter press unit, it transformed itself into a
Direct to Plate (DTP) house with the change in technology. Recognizing the need for a
machine that entailed low investment and was suited for small runs, Autoprint set about
designing a machine from scratch. The success of this machine paved the way for
arrange of machines with the small printer in mind. The logic behind concentrating on
this segment was the understanding that most print jobs involved small runs, which
could best be achieved on machines specifically designed for such jobs.

ON-THE-JOB TRAINING EXPERIENCES IN
GAKKEN (PHILIPPINES), INC.
As an OJT walk-in applicant of GAKKEN (Philippines), INC., The trainee first fill
up the application form and wait for the reception to be call for an examination and
interview. After an hour of waiting, the reception calls her name and told her to go up at
Multi-Purpose Hall, 3rd floor. Ms. Kim, HR Assistant for Recruitment told her to take first
the IQ and Personality test which is the Thurstone Mental Alertness Test, for 25
minutes, CFIT for 12 minutes, Personal Style Indicator, Motiquiz and Sacks Sentence
Completion Test. After so many tests, she interviewed the trainee and told her that she
will just text her if she passed the test and schedule for final interview.
On the next day, she texted the trainee and scheduled her for the final interview
with Ms. Hazel, HR Manager. She feels so nervous yet so excited for the interview. Ms.
Hazel asked her a lot of things and gave her a brief background of their company and
some responsibilities of an HR on-the-job trainee.
The trainee schedule in GAKKEN (Philippines), INC. is every Monday to Friday
from 8:00am – 5:00pm. Since she also has a schedule in school, she’s just informing
her Manager whenever they have a meeting in school.
The trainee started her on-the-job training on June 5, 2012, Ms. Kim, HR
Assistant for Recruitment, introduced her to the HRD and to the other departments of
the company. She also orients the trainee about the responsibilities of the HRD.
Every Monday, 7:30am- 9:30am, GAKKEN (Philippines), INC. has their General
Assembly. Sales update, Attendance report and announcement per Department are
presented in the General Assembly.
Ms. Jen, HR assistant for timekeeping, instructed the trainee to log all the absent
employees for the day, from 7:30am to 10:00am. All employees who will not able to
inform the HRD will be mark absent w/ no call for that day.
The trainee experienced to photocopy and fax MEMO and other documents,

need to know how to organize the 201 file of the employees. Finally, the trainee knows
how to organize 201 file of the employees.
The trainee experienced to schedule applicants for exam and interview
administer test to applicants, validate and make a summary report of their examination.
It is very challenging to administer test to applicants who are older than you, there are
times that they will just stare at you and you can feel that they are a bit of confused
because the one that instructing them is much younger than them.
GAKKEN (Philippines), INC. will not just treat you as a trainee but they will treat
you as a member of the company, they are comfortable to work with and they became
my second family. The whole OJT experience was really a great memory to remember.
One of the most important things she learned is that talent alone is not enough, it is
important, but it is no guarantee of success. One must also be hardworking and should
practice self-disciplined.

EVALUATION
Having her internship in company was overwhelming yet challenging. The intern
does not know what to expect and where to set her boundaries. She was afraid of doing
something wrong or illogical that would stain the name of her school. Of course she
doesn’t want that to happen.
Because of the inspiring words of wisdom of her OJT Coordinator, she had to
become confident and learned to forget her training worries. She also came to realize
that having supervisors that are too old creates a happy and enjoyable work
environment in spite of the workloads that stresses out the tram at times. She had
words of encouragement and wisdom to hold on her school mentors, and memories
and experiences from her training in GAKKEN (Philippines), INC. The company treated
her as family and gave her responsibilities that she needed and enjoyed handling. All of
her mentors made the training worth finishing and heavy workloads bearable.
Happy employees create a happy work environment and produces positive and
great work results.
In sum, the whole OJT experience wasn’t as bad as she thought it would be. In
fact, the 300 hours was a breeze except for those days when she had a hard time
waking up, when traffic was really bad and when she was feeling lazy and out of it.
Going to work and seeing some friendly faces helped a great deal. I’m sure the real
world wouldn’t always have as many friendly faces but we all; relationships that is, have
to start somewhere. Before all the relationships and friendships have even started, we
were but strangers in this sea of unfamiliar and nameless faces.

INSIGHT GAINED
For almost two months of staying in GAKKEN (Philippines), INC., the trainee
experience on the start was nervous but as the day passed by, she realized that staying
in the office and being with professional people was so exciting and challenging. She
gained knowledge on hands-on work and she considered it as her achievement in life.
The training made her to be a better person through the challenges, adjustments and
difficulties that she faced and encountered during the whole training. It showed her
greater responsibility in terms of work-load, put humility and respects her workplace, co-
trainees and managers. The trainee realized that it’s not an easy experience working in
the industrial world; everything that she experienced is just the start of the challenges
after graduating. It’s not just a name of school she carrying on her shoulder but also her
whole being. Everything happens and whatever actions done, she must be responsible
for it. She has to be more reliable and careful for what she’s doing and saying. What
they are doing inside the office of GAKKEN (Philippines), INC., are all confidential. She
had learned that the secret of success of trainee are simplicity, initiative and
perseverance, a little sense of humor, humility and work ethics. Having a good
performance is in the hands of the person to pass through the hardships that they will
encounter to take the notch of success. A high sense of values for what they have
learned.
