Introduction:

Community Forests (CF) are becoming self sustaining grass root level
institutions. Pro‐poor strategies are having an effect; as a result,
CFUGs are able to reach poor households.

CF has succeeded in building capacity and bringing attitudinal and
behavioural change amongst locals.

For instance, they mobilize NRs. 800 million annually in social
development activities.

CF’s as successful green infrastructures have become quite
successful in reducing C emissions and in Nepal
Site Introduction:

Beldada is one of the Villages in Kabilash VDC of Chitwan District. It
is the ward no. 9 of Kabilash.

After a huge and devastating flood and landslide of 2060’s there
have been many projects in Kabilash from Practical Action Nepal,
CARE Nepal, Shram Nepal, Heifer Nepal, etc.

The positive impacts of these projects is the prosper community of
Barlang which is ward no 1 but the Ward no 9 i.e. Beldada is in vain.

Chepang’s of Barlang solely depend upon forests nearby. So, their
progress could only be obtained via the promotion of CF’s.
Objectives:
The main objective of this community work is to emphasize the
importance of community forestry as a means of enhancing
livelihood.

Specific objectives:

•To explore the existing condition of forestry in Chepang Community,
Beldada.

•To aware people and concerned authority about the importance of
community forestry

•To document the success stories about community forests as a
green infrastructure.
Methodology:
                • Households (representative of Beldada) will be selected
                • Clusters of households within Beldada (esp. Chepang
Selection of
Households community)

                • Instruments, checklists and guide questionnaires

               • Children, women and man will make vision map of their village.
               • Later from our side some intervention will be done so it will be
 Village map
development easier to make them understand about the importance of CF’s.

               • Elderly consulted (about major phenomenon, history of
Timeline and
occurrence and CC experiences) and verified.

               • Helpful in analysing trend and recommending measures.

               • Problem tree will be drawn.

                • Identify areas needed to focus for DRR and CC adaptations.
                • Success stories of Green Infrastructures, CF’s in context of Nepal
    FGD will be documented.

                • Teachers, social elites, representatives (CFU groups, Mother
groups, VDC's and Ex- VDC's, Local environmental organizations)
will share their views on CC.
KII • Give their views on adapting to CC via CF’s.

                • Regarding the possibility of Green interventions like drip irrigation,
enhancement of CF, organic farming, etc.
Expert Advice
Significance of the study:
• At present, Earth Summit’s promise to make “Environmental Protection an
international part of development process” remains unfulfilled and Agenda 21 has
been forgotten (Ojha et al., 2009).

• This research aims in documenting the local perception followed by adaptive
measures which can be helpful in determining the priority sectors that need to be
addressed by management.

• Documentation of success stories and exploration of reliable green infrastructures
will be an asset to community.

• CF’s are becoming pro-poor and people centred. For instance, they mobilize
NRs. 800 million annually in social development activities (Ojha et al., 2009).

• Climate Policy 2011 “improve livelihood by mitigating adverse impacts of CC”
will only be fulfilled if there will be a transition to green economy (NPC, 2011).

•This study in relating scientific facts with social changes will find its relevance at
proper timing and prosper the Chepang Community!!!
THANK YOU!!!
     Hope this study will
     be a boon to
     Chepang
     Community…
