Analysis of the music video for "Love Is Easy" by McFly.

2. As the video begins we can see
Tom walking towards the stage
with his ukulele, and the lights are
switched on as he turns around to
face the camera.
 This video seems to be both
performance and
conceptual, which creates a
positive effect on the
audience as it has the
concert-like effect but also
has a very creative aspect
to it as well and is
aesthetically pleasing.

3. As he goes onto the stage, Dougie comes on from the
side of the stage with clouds, following the lyrics “I’m
laughing the clouds away”.
 Here we see that they are
both wearing the same
outfit, and can assume
that the whole band will.
 The suits are clearly
designed to create this
dapper style for their
largely female audience.

4.  The video is showing this
quite handmade style
with props and set
design, almost as if to
imitate a school play.
This may be being used
to make them seem
more playful and fun as
the group are growing
and moving away from
their earlier teenage
style.

5. Danny and Harry are brought on and now the whole
band is present. Also the theme of the primary school
play is still clear

6.  We are seeing more of this
handmade style, here with the lyrics
on the umbrellas, with red clearly
chosen because of the strong
connotations of love and romance.

7.  This section has a very clever little swap
where a regular umbrella is switched for the
maths one above.
 This is in relation to the lyrics “a simple
equation”

8.  In these shots Tom has his
board upside down which
is unlikely to be a mistake
as this is clearly well
choreographed and
precise, so it is intended
to make him look
innocent and funny, to
appeal to the women
who are their target
audience.
 The following shots are
also used for the same
reason:

10.  Despite the serious stance,
this is used for comic effect,
as the rest of the video is
rather playful, we aren’t
expect to take them
seriously in this bit. This
reflects how at school plays
that this seems to mirror, how
it is hard to watch them
acting because you tend to
see them as just kids having
fun. This makes you see them
sort of like children just
messing around with all the
props that they have
available.

11.  In this scene we have a model of the stage that
they are on for this video, but they have included
the famous lines from “It’s a Wonderful Life”,
which could be there to reinforce the message of
love, by referencing this classic film, that is
commonly associated with family Christmases,
and
“What is it you want, Mary?
What do you want?
You want the moon?
Just say the word and I'll
Throw a lasso around it and
Pull it down. Hey. That's a
Pretty good idea. I'll give
You the moon, Mary.”

12. These shots introduce the concert feel and imply that
their concerts are fun and entertaining like this video, and
so encourage the viewers to attend them.

14.  This helps in making
all fans a part of the
concert experience,
as even if you aren’t
there, the shot is fairly
close to the fans and
you can see their faces
and read their signs.
 This mock concert feel draws in fans as this implies that their concerts are
as entertaining and enjoyable as this video makes them out to be,
encouraging them to go to one.

15.  There is a shot in which the
fans are included just
before, and this shot
confirms to us that the
band do care about their
fans and want to show this
off in a video, in an
attempt to be more
appealing to current fans
and to future ones.
