Brushing Your Teeth!
 Dentists recommend that adults and children
brush their teeth at least twice a day, floss
everyday, and go see the dentist regularly!
 You must brush your teeth to remove all the food
and sticky bacteria, called plaque, from your teeth!
 While brushing your teeth, you must always be
sure to use toothpaste, and toothpaste with
fluoride is what helps to prevent cavities. (Goss, &
  Inga, 2008)
Brushing Your Teeth!
 Step One: Get out your toothbrush and toothpaste (with
    flouride!)
 Step Two: Wet your toothbrush, and add a pea-sized
    amount of toothpaste to it.
 Step Three: Hold your brush at a 45 degree angle to the
    gumline (Goss, & Inga, 2008).
 Step Four: Gently brush in short, little circular motions.
 Step Five: Continue step four for two minutes.
 Step Six: Spit out toothpaste and rinse your mouth!
 Step Seven: Repeat process again at least once more
throughout the day (Goss, & Inga, 2008).
Brushing Your Teeth!
1. Why must you brush your  . What is the ideal way
    teeth?
                                  to brush your teeth?
    To remove plaque
To keep teeth healthy  Back and Forth
All of the Above  Up and Down
2. How often does the dentist  In short, circular
    recommend you brush?
                                  motions
    Once a day
    Twice a day
    Once a week
Wrong!
 This is not the correct way that you
      should brush your teeth!
Wrong again!
 This is also not the correct answer! Try
                  again!
GREAT JOB!
 This is the proper way to brush your teeth to ensure
                maximum cleanliness!
Not quite!
 This answer is good, but this is not the correct
         recommendation from dentists!
CORRECT!
 Dentists recommend you brush your teeth AT LEAST
two times daily to prevent cavities and plaque buildup!
Wrong!
 Once a week is most definitely not as often as you
              should brush! Try Again!
Close!
 While this is one of the main reasons, there is also a
                     better answer!
Close!
 This answer is a very close one! Keeping your mouth
healthy is a great choice! But there is one that is even
                         better!
CORRECT!
 This is the best answer! We brush our teeth so that we
can remove plaque, but also so that we can keep
ourselves and our mouths happy and healthy!
Washing Your Hands!
 Washing your hands is a very important part of staying
clean and healthy. This is how we try to prevent the
spread of disease and germs to others!
 Clean water and soap is the best way to keep your
hands clean. However, if clean water is not available,
use soap and whatever available water. If soap is not
an option, use an alcohol based sanitizer. (Center for
  Disease, 2010)
 We will learn the best times and ways to wash your
hands to keep yourself and others around you healthy!
Washing Your Hands!
 Hands should be washed before:  Steps to properly washing hands:
                                         1: Wet hands
   Preparing food
                                         2: Apply soap
   Eating food
Caring for someone who is sick  3: Rub hands together
Dealing with an open wound  4: Lather soap and scrub hands
 Hands should be washed after: thoroughly
 5: Continue washing hands for
 Using the bathroom 20 seconds or longer
    Changing a child’s diaper  6: Rinse hands
    Blowing your nose/sneezing  7: Dry hands
    Touching an animal
    Touching garbage
                                        (Center for Disease, 2010)
 Dealing with an open wound
Washing Your Hands!

 Why must your wash your  How long should you
  hands? continue washing your
 To waste water and soap hands?
 To keep hands clean and  For at least 20 seconds
prevent spread of germs  For at least 20 minutes
 To make the CDC happy  For 10 seconds only
 When is a good time to wash
  your hands?
    After using the bathroom
    After touching garbage
    All of the above
CORRECT!
 This is the correct way to wash your hands!
Wrong!
 This is too long to wash your hands!
Wrong!
 This is not the recommended length of washing your
hands as advised by the CDC.
This is Correct!
 Washing your hands is a great way to keep your own
body healthy and it’s also a great way to prevent the
             spread of germs and disease!
Incorrect!
 This is not the correct reason to wash your hands!
Try Again!
 This is not the appropriate reason why hands should
                      be washed!
Almost!
 This is a great choice, but it is not the BEST choice!
Close!
 This is another great answer, but there is a better one!
Right!
 This is the best choice for when hands should be
                     washed!
Taking A Bath!
 Taking a bath or a shower is a very important part of
  being hygienic!
 Reasons for bathing are very similar to the reasons to
wash your hands. You need to bathe to be able to get
rid of germs that can cause illnesses. Bathing is also
important for us to keep all parts of our body clean.
 Bathing can be quick, or it can be relaxing! You can
bathe by taking a shower, or by taking a bath in a tub!
 Bathing also helps you not be so stinky!  ("Bathing,"
  2011)
Taking A Bath!
 Healthy bathing  Safety Tips/Hazards
techniques:  Be sure if taking a bath
 Bathe regularly that you or the child you
(every few days) are bathing doesn’t
 Be sure to use soap submerge their head
 Use Shampoo (and under the water.
conditioner if  Swimmer’s Ear can result
desired!) from water in the ears.
 Be sure water is not  Infections can occur if
too hot water is not clean enough
 Falling can happen due to
wet feet and wet floors; be
                                 sure to step out very
                                 carefully! ("Bathing," 2011)
Taking A Bath!

 What is a good reason for  What is one safety tip?
bathing?  Be sure to step out
 To get rid of germs carefully to prevent falling
 To make your parents  Use expensive shampoo
happy  Use extra body wash
   To keep away odors
 What is a correct healthy
  bathing technique?
 Bathe only once a month
   Use extra hot water
   Use soap and shampoo
Incorrect!
 Using expensive shampoo may help your hair, but it
              will not help your safety!
Wrong!
 Extra hot water is not healthy! It can burn you!
Try again!
 Bathing once a month is not the correct answer!
This is correct!
 Getting rid of germs is a reason for bathing!
This is also correct!
 Parents are happy when kids (and adults!) take baths
                      or showers!
Correct!
 Taking a bath or shower is a great way to eliminate
                     body odors!
Correct!
 Bathing using soap and shampoo is a healthy
                  technique!
Correct!
 Stepping out of the bath or shower carefully is a great
                        safety tip!
Incorrect!
 This is not the correct answer!
Conclusion
 This was a very informative project! I never thought I
would be able to figure this out but it was much easier
than I thought. I realized how useful this can be for
kids in a classroom setting! I also realized that this is a
great way to keep children’s attention in a very creative
way. Kids attention spans aren’t as long as sometimes
we’d like, but this was a great way for using creativity
to keep their attention. I also realized that this is
much simpler to put together than I originally
thought! It’s a great tool to use for a classroom!
