2. VOICES
ACTIVE VOICE PASSIVE VOICE
Object receives action •Subject receives the
action. Object turns into
the subject.
Example: Cats eat fish
Example: Fish are eaten by cats.
(Subject - Verb – Object)
(Subject - Verb – Object)

4. USE OF THE PASSIVE VOICE
We use the passive when:
we want to make the object more
important
we do not know the active
subject

5. Simple Present Simple Past
I am I was
You are You were
He is He was
She is She was
It is It was
We are We were
They are They were

6. ACTIVE VOICE
 In
the active voice, the object receives the
action of the verb

7. PASSIVE VOICE IN SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
 Form:
(To be) Is/are + past participle

8. PASSIVE VOICE IN SIMPLE PAST TENSE
 Form:
To be (was/were) + past participle

9. PASSIVE VOICE
 The passive voice is less usual. In the passive
voice, the subject receives the action of the verb:
