2. • According to New Straits Times in 2017, more than 43% of Malaysian drivers are
using mobile while on road and 23% of accidents are caused by it.
• Government have imposed austere rules though the statistic of Malaysians using
mobiles did not dwindle as it is not a adequate disincentive for Malaysians
("PressReader.com - Connecting People Through News", 2018).
• Plus, current Malaysian camera detection system fails to address this issue! (Editorial, 2017).
• Texting while driving creates divided attention cognitively, manually and perceptually
As in the result, it increases your risk of being killed or killing others in an accident
upto to 23X times (Richtel, 2018)
Why it matters!
3. • The life savior system where it could help to decline the number of accidents
on road caused by mobile phones.
• It works in a way which detects if a driver is using the mobile or not and if
they then it would gradually slows the speed of the car and would aware the
other drivers on the road.
• Requires some artificial intelligence to implement this idea.
• Holds the record of times the driver used the mobile and would be reviewed
or sent to the traffic police.
• Raising awareness of potential disracted drivers.
The Solution’s Concept
4. • A system to be installed in the car that detects whether a driver is using a phone
while the car is moving and not still.
• The system is based on the research conducted by Emerging Technologies which
proposed “ An electronic circuit (Radio Frequency harvesting) captures the
power generated by mobile-phone use and two antennae located inside the
vehicle and a signal analysis algorithm are used to identify when the driver is
using a mobile phone” (Rodríguez-Ascariz, Boquete, Cantos & Ortega, 2011).
• In addition to, AI technology will be used to detect mobile use during driving like
miniature camera on top of the looking glass to capture images of the driver.
Following Footsteps of Innovation
5. 4. led light will be installed at the back and the front of the car near the number plates which will glow
in bright red light once the system detects mobile usage during car’s movement to aware the nearby
people and other drivers of the negligence conducted by the driver using a cellphone to increase
public safety.
3. System will also record the date and time and image of the driver once it detects cellular usage
while the car is moving and the records are stored in the system database to be sent to traffic control
department for further actions like warning to the driver, suspension of driving license for regular
detection or fine for repeated users.
2. Once the system detects cellular usage while the car is moving the system will manipulate the car
brakes and apply the brakes on at a gradual speed thus reducing the speed of the car slowly avoiding
sudden breaks
1. The system detects whether the car is in motion or stationary while the phone is being used thus
giving the driver opportunity to use the phone in case of emergency only when the vehicle is still.
6. Advantages of implementing
Decline in the number of road accidents.
Could save many lives.
Drivers would be more disciplined while driving.
Drivers would follow the rules imposed by the government.
User friendly application.
This idea was not imposed in any other countries yet and Malaysia could set
an example by implementing this.
7. Disadvantages
• Cost of implementing this idea could be high.
• May not completely diminish the statics of drivers using mobile phones while
driving.
• Time to implement could be longer.
• Would require a lot of manpower.
8. What about the competitors?
• Distracted driving has been attempted to be solved by many others.
For instance, apps such as Lifesaver, Cell Control, On My Way etc..
that works by allowing the driver to lock the phone and its
notifications during the drive.
But,
1.We can’t assure that the driver will use the app and turn it on every
time. Hence, our system is to be mandatory by law for all drivers and
regulated by traffic police.
2. Our system sets tougher punishment as opposed to apps where u
simply can turn it off.
