REVIEW
Review
Read sample A and sample B. Compare both examples and
identify their differences and similarities.
Sample A
I feel sad. I’m surrounded by people on the
outside but I still feel alone on the inside.
Sample B
Wandering with a masked soul,
my heart is empty yet filled with sorrow
These feet mimics the cries of mercy
Darkness, come to me; Darkness, get away
from me; Darkness you’re all I see.
Review
What does your mom say when…
▪ you play too much computer/video games?
▪ you spend too much time on the internet?
▪ How do you feel about it?
When you were younger, who were you closer to? Mom or dad?
▪ Who do you go to when you’re hungry?
▪ When you get hurt while playing?
▪ When you get scared?
Watch the video carefully. Be ready for follow-up
questions.
My Mother
I have the finest mother
That any boy could have;
She cleanses all my scratches,
And binds them up with salve
She fixes all my clothes,
And doesn’t mind at all
If I’ve torn my shirt
Or outgrown it 'cause I’m tall.
She helps me with my lessons,
And takes the greatest pain
To be sure I understand them,
And my interest doesn't wane.
She welcomes all my friends,
And lets us use her stuff;
Poppin’ corn and makin' candy,
Till we've had enough.
She teaches me of God,
And helps me understand
The way to live;
To gain a home in heaven's land.
No, I wouldn't trade my mother
For all the jewels on earth;
'Cause there is no way to tell,
What an awful lot she's worth.
Interpreting the Mood of Poem
A poem sparks a feeling or an emotion in a reader. It may
be a feeling of sadness, fear, joy, inspiration, longing,
excitement, etc.
This feeling is called the mood of a poem. The mood is the
overall feeling of the poem. This can be shown through
the words used in the poem.
GROUP WORK
Divide yourselves into 6 groups. Think of an unforgettable
moment wherein you really felt the love of your mother.
Create a short skit to present your work.
ASSIGNMENT
Write a poem dedicated to your mother. Apply what
you’ve learned in the elements of poetry, its kinds, and the
mood of a poem. It can be about anything:
 how much you love her;
 how thankful you are for her;
 how sorry you are for being naughty sometimes, etc.
Have your poem signed by your mom and submit it in the next
meeting.
RECAP
1. What would life be if poetry did not exist?
2. Should one student learn how to write a poem? Why?
