What is creativity?

Creativity is the bringing into being of something
which did not exist before, either as a product, a
process or a thought.

Business Creativity is the ability to see/perceive the
world in a new way to find hidden patterns, to
make connections between seemingly unrelated
ideas/things to generate solutions.

            Generating fresh solutions to problems
            and the ability to create new
            products, processes or services for a
            changing market, are part of the
            intellectual capital that give a company
            its competitive edge.

Creativity in the Business World
 Traits of Highly Creative People
     Have the COURAGE to try new things and risk failure.
     Use INTUITION as well as logic to make decisions and produce ideas.
     Like to PLAY, since having fun is the ultimate creative act.
     Are EXPRESSIVE and willing to share what they feel and think, to be
      themselves
     Can FIND ORDER in confusion and discover hidden meaning in
      information.
     Are MOTIVATED BY A TASK rather than by external rewards.
     Have a need to FIND SOLUTIONS to challenging problems.
     Will CHALLENGE ASSUMPTIONS and ask hard questions to discover
      what is real.
     Can MAKE CONNECTIONS between old ideas to produce new insights.
     Will PUSH THE ENVELOPE in order to expand the boundaries of what is
      possible. What have you not tried yet?
     Are willing to TEST new ideas and compete with others based on results.
      Isn’t that what they mean by the “market of ideas”? Isn’t that what business
      competition is about? If you are afraid of being wrong or losing, your
      creativity will suffer.

 People who are naturally creative often are mentally
  flexible.
 Acting independently is a personality traits often
  associated with creative people.
 Creative people like to seek out new challenges

How can People Demonstrate Creativity?
 Invent something which has never existed before
 Invent something which exists elsewhere but you are not
    aware of
   Invent a new process for doing something
   Reapply an existing process or product into a new or
    different market
   Develop a new way of looking at
    something (bringing a new idea
    into existence)
   Change the way someone else looks
    at something
Creativity in the Business World
The creative-thinking process is a method for
 encouraging your own creativity, allowing it to reveal
 itself to generating unique ideas, approaches, and
 solutions.
An entrepreneur is a person who starts and assumes
 the risk for a business. Before an entrepreneur can
 start a venture, s/he must generate an idea for the
 business, which is done by thinking creatively.
The entrepreneur must generate
 venture ideas before s/he can make
 decisions, set goals, and plan finances
 for the venture.

 Rules of the Garage for Creative Thinking
    Believe you can change the world
    Work quickly, keep the tools unlocked, work whenever.
    Know when to work alone and when to work together.
    Share – tools, ideas. Trust your colleagues
    No Politics. No bureaucracy.
    The customer defines a job well done.
    Radical ideas are not bad ideas
    Invent different ways of working.
    Make a contribution every day. If it doesn’t contribute, it
     doesn’t leave the garage
    Believe that together we can do anything.

The Power of Brainstorming
 Group members most often generate new ideas by
 altering or building upon another idea.

Creativity in the Business World The creative-thinking process is a method for encouraging your own creativity, allowing it to reveal itself to generating unique ideas, approaches, and solutions. An entrepreneur is a person who starts and assumes the risk for a business. Before an entrepreneur can start a venture, s/he must generate an idea for the business, which is done by thinking creatively. The entrepreneur must generate venture ideas before s/he can make decisions, set goals, and plan finances for the venture.

Trust your colleagues  No Politics. No bureaucracy.  The customer defines a job well done.  Radical ideas are not bad ideas  Invent different ways of working.  Make a contribution every day.
