REFLECTION PAPER
“The greatest danger in humanity in the age of indifference is not the danger of a total
extermination of life. The greatest danger is to be anesthetized by which we suffer
companion of the other in order to avoid encountering the pain of discerning otherness is
oneself.”
From the day of our birth, each person is unique, and individual experiences after birth
tend to make people even more different from other people. Each person is different from all others,
probably in a million of ways, just as each person’s DNA profile is different, as far we know. Every
person has their own special abilities or talents that others can’t do. But some people have not yet found
these things because they are having difficulties in discovering some points in their life that would make
them stand out. That’s why imitations are dominant in our country. We believe that if we act like other
people in the higher status, we can join them or we are “in” in their level.
In my 17 years of existence here on Earth, judgment will always be part of our lives.
There will always be someone who will judge you whether in good ways or bad ways. Some people tend
to judge you for the sake of your improvement but others do it for their own satisfaction. But what really
tests one’s character is how they would handle such judgment against them. Your character will always
reflect who you really are. One’s skills and talents could make one more higher among others but it is just
an addition to their whole being. Skills may be imitated, talents may be copied but one’s character is
always unique in their own special ways.
A good example for this is one famous personality that for most of the time being adored
is people or what they usually call “fans”. Too many people could like you because of something special
you attain but you can never be sure of their loyalty, it depends on how you would treat them as a whole.
You may have all the possible talents in the world but not the trust and companions of the people you
thought will never leave you behind. Especially when you treat them in a negative way, then you could
lose these people.
But we cannot be sure that you will always be good to others, either intentionally or
unintentionally. People have their own flaws, as the saying goes, “Nobody is perfect”. But when you
begin to start exploring your thoughts that you can do better, their judgment against you would change. At
first, they would treat you in a negative way but suddenly they began talking to you. Then you would
realize that they like you not because of fame or glory but because you know who you are and you’re not
ashamed to show it. Because others tend to hide their personality through showing others their “cool” side
just to impress others only for them to feel they are worth appreciating.
In the quote that mentioned above, the greatest danger in our life is not the extermination
of our life but what will people behave on you or what people might say to you brought by your actions in
different circumstances. Not all people are able to understand your way of thinking and acts. Sometimes
you might feel the pain that others made on you; it is for you to become a better person. Not everyone
who comes in our lives, remain lifetime. Some are giving us lessons to improve more and some who stay
are the ones who will be our friends for life that will guide us in a right path.
