- Twitter does not have accessibility information available. Of interest is the development of an app called Easy Chirp at http://www.easychirp.com. This app is designed to make Twitter a more accessible tool. In April 2013, the creator conducted a Kickstarter campaign to develop Easy Chirp 2 and was successfully in achieving the funding goal.
- Twitter is a microblogging and social network tool and is the #2 social network on the Internet. It has been voted the #1 tool for learning in 2010 and 2011 by the Centre for Learning and Performance Technologies [http://c4lpt.co.uk/top100tools/]. Interestingly, most faculty and educators that I have encountered are skeptical about using Twitter themselves or with their students. I teach educators and the combination of social media relevance and skepticism made me want to integrate Twitter into my courses. I also wanted the use Twitter to support my course learning objectives. Two areas that I am always searching to improve is 1) helping students with collaborative group work skill development via the implementation of the PSTC model, and 2) helping students understand and develop their professional learning networks. Additionally, I wanted it to be a model activity that others could adapt for their own courses. With all of this in mind, I created the Twitter Top 5 Activity.
