under human management is referred to as
- Domestication may be the most basic method of plant
breeding
- Domestication continuous today and is likely to continue
for some time in future - Ex : In case of timber trees
medicinal plants, microbes
- During the long period of historic cultivation natural
selection has definitely acted on the domesticated species.
5. Purpose of domestication
The man has brought wid plants under his control
For various urpose
Food , clothes ,shelter ,medicines ,aesthetic
Process of domestication-
1- natural selection 2- spontaneous generation
3- selective breeding method 3- wild mutation
6. History of domestication
The practice of plant domestication is estimated to
date back -9000-11000,year
Cultigen- a plant whose origin or selection is due to
primarily to international human activity is called a
cultigen
7. Difference between wild and domesticated plant
s.no Particuler Wild species Domesticated spp.
1 Plant habit perennial Annual
2 Yield potential Poor High
3 Resistance to biotic
and abiotic stress
Very high Low to medium
4 Germination Poor High
5 Dormancy High Low
6 Grain quality Poor Very good
7 Toxic substances More Less or absent
8. Limitations
Domestication is a very slow process taken 100 of year
Wild plant have several undesirable trait
Reduction of resistance of plant
The domestication makes the plant human depend for
their reproduction .
