1. I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson 100% shall be able to attain atleast 75%level of profiency.
1. Define momentum
2. Differentiate the mass and velocity
3. Identify the factors that affect momentum
4. Solve the value of unknown variables (p, m, v)
II. .Subject Matter
Topic: Momentum
Subtopic: Momentum
Concepts:
The momentum (p) of an object is found by multiplying the objects mass (m) in kilograms (kg)
by it’s velocity in metres per second (ms-1
).
momentum = mass x velocity
p=mv
Momentum is a vector and it’s unit is the kilogram metre per second (kgms-1
).

III. Teaching Procedures
1. Prayer
2. Greeting the class
3. Checking the attendance
4. Check the cleanliness
5. Pass the Assignment
2. Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
2. Motivation
Class, what do you do when you are at the peak
of your study or you’re doing something then
suddenly your parent called you?
I will not immediately obey my mother I’ll
first finish what I’m doing.
What do you think would be the reason/s why
you will not immediately obey your parent?
Because it is hard for us stop for what we
are doing and especially when we are
already in the middle of it.
What you probably felt is called as momentum.
3. Lesson Proper
Our lesson for today you will understand what
would be the meaning of momentum .
Awhile ago we said that what you felt is
momentum, now, based from your experience
what does momentum means?
Momentum is the difficulty faced by an
object/moving body to undergo sudden
stop.
That’s right. Linear Momentum or simply
momentum of an object is the product of mass of
the object and its velocity.
Basically, momentum is affected in two factors
which are mass of the body and its velocity.
Let’s find out, again from your experience which
is harder to stop the runner that moves slow or
the one that is fast?
The harder to stop is the runner that
moves fast.
What could be the factor that affects the
momentum of the runner?
Velocity
That’s right
Now, Let us know if mass really affects
momentum. I need a student that is heavy and a
student lighter. I need a 2 volunteers that will
stop them.
Which from your heavy and lighter classmate is
hard to stop?
3. The heavy classmate.
Why do you think is the reason why he/she is
hard to stop?
Because he/she possesses a greater
mass.
What could be the mathematical formula of
momentum? Or you can create your own formula
like this.
p=mv
Now, for us to clearly understand the
mathematical view of momentum, let’s have this
one.
a = b / c
This equation shows the relationships of the
three variables involve.
What are the 3 variables involve?
a, b and c
Correct, now, let us relate a and b; b and c. If we
are going to look at its location as part of the
fraction, we can immediately understand its
relation from one another. Let’s start with a
and b. If we are going to look at it, in what part of
a fraction is a and b located?
Numerator
That’s right.
Now, please keep this in to your mind that the 2
variables are in the same location as parts of a
fraction, then they are directly proportional. What
does it mean?
When one variable increases, the other
one increases also.
Very good. Take note they are directly
proportional
4. Then, with that, how can you relate a and b?
a and b are directly proportional, as
a increases b will also increases and vice
versa.
Very good.
Now, let us look to the other variables we want to
compare which is a and c.
Where is variable a located in the fraction?
Numerator
How about c?
Therefore, What conclusion can you make?
That’s Right!
Denominator
If c increase, a will be decrease also.
Because they are inversely proportional
5. Now, going back to our lesson momentum is
define as
p = mv
where p = momentum
m = mass
v = velocity
What conclusion can you make base from the
equation?
That’s Correct
Lets have an example
1. There are twenty students in a class bus
service with a mass of 2250 kg moving
with a speed of 4.25m/s. What is the
momentum of the bus and its passengers
if the average mass of a student is
125kg?
Very good!
2. How fast must superman run to have the
same momentum as a 2500kg train
moving at 4.5m/s in the same direction?
Assume the mass of superman is 120kg
Very Good.! What is the unit of
momentum?
Correct, since mass is the unit of kg and
velocity is in m/s, we can just combine
the 2 to have a kg ∙ m/s.
4.Generalization
What does momentum means?
Mass and Velocity are directly proportional
with momentum.
m= 2250kg+125kg/students(20 students)
=4750kg
P=mv
(4750kg)(4.25m.s)
=20187.5kg.m/s or 20200kg.m/s
M= 2500kg+120kg
=2620kg
P=mv
=(2620kg)(4.5m/s)
=11790kg.m/s
Kg.m/s
Momentum is defined as the product of
mass and velocity of a body which is p =
mv. is the difficulty faced by a moving
body/object to undergo.
6. What are the factors that affect momentum?
What is the relationship of momentum to the
mass and velocity?
Assignments.
1. Define motion
2. What are the factors that affects
motion
Mass and velocity
The mass and velocity are directly
proportional to the momentum it meansone
increases the other one will also increase
and vice versa.
5.Activity Sheet
3. Define momentum
4. Give the formulaof momentum
5. Differentiate the massandvelocity
II.Solve the problem

hockey puck moving south at 3.0m/s?
2. Calculate the momentum of a 0.15 kg ball that is moving toward home plate at a
velocity of 40m/s.
3. What is the velocity of a 65 kg car if its momentum is 780 kg ∙ m/s?
4. Calculate the momentum of 11.35kg wagon rolling down a hill at 12m/s.
