This prayer seeks wisdom, courage, and peace through acceptance of things outside one's control and trusting God's will. It asks for the serenity to accept what cannot be changed, courage to change what can, and wisdom to distinguish between the two. It also expresses wanting to enjoy life day by day and moment by moment, accepting hardships as leading to peace, and trusting that God will make all things right if one surrenders to God's will. The prayer ends by hoping for happiness in this life and eternal happiness with God.
