8. A Vivid Technology Learning Experience Picture taken from Blackboard.com While I was working at Kamehameha Middle School, I volunteered to try a new online classroom called Blackboard. I had never used software like this before but it was extremely user friendly and I was able to teach myself how to use it. My Orchestra classes started accessing the program in October and by the end of the year, the site received 133,000+ hits. We used the site for things like distributing and collecting homework, listening to music, watching/critiquing videos, posting pictures, online scavenger hunts, etc. It was so much fun! The students all had personal spaces on the site (like Myspace) and could even use Myspace codes to “pimp it out.” I had taken online classes before that but it was the first time I had experienced creating an online classroom and I knew it was definitely something I wanted to pursue in the future.
9. A technology I want to use in my classroom I would love for all of my students to have access to various types of music composition software. This would include but are not limited to Sibelius, Finale, Band in a Box, and others. This software can be used to teach things like rhythm, notation, and auditory skills that are important to every musician.
10. My vision of the classroom of the future Taken from the Mark Wood Website: http://www.markwoodmusic.com/cgi-bin/gallery/gallery.cgi?func=show&file=200486&Category=100027&Page=1 My dream is to teach an orchestra filled with electronic instruments playing both contemporary and classical music.
11. A challenge for teaching The biggest challenges for teaching with technology are time and money. It costs money to purchase the tools and training needed to incorporate technology into the classroom. It also takes time to implement programs and get everyone trained so the technology is used to its fullest potential.
