in which La Haine was produced.

 Think about:
 What stereotypes do we associate with French culture
and France as a nation?
 What characteristics or stereotypes do we associate
with French people?

 La Haine is a french film
that is said to subvert
cultural expectations
(Stafford, 2000)
 It is set in the banlieues of
Paris.
 ‘les banlieues’ is often used
as a euphemism to
describe low-income
housing projects in which
mainly French immigrants
reside.

  1. Makome M’Bowole (1993) young Zarian, was shot while in police custody while being chained to a radiator. Kassovitz its said to have begun the script the day he was shot. Malik Oussenkine (1986) 22 year old student whom was beaten by police during a protest in which he was not part of – referred to in opening.
  2. Sayid’s first acting role. Hubert and Vincent had worked with Kassovitz on one project before La Haine. Suburb of Chanteloup-les-Vignes. Kassovitz public reply to Sarkozy http://www.criterion.com/current/posts/476-la-haine-kassovitz-vs-sarkozy
