SCHOOLOGY

What is Schoology?
Schoology is a web-based social network
specifically for K-12 (schools and higher education
institutions) that is focused on collaboration, to
enable users to create, manage and interact with
each other and share academic content. This e-
learning also provides access to teachers and
students for attendance, assignment of tasks,
practice questions and media learning resources
that can be accessed anytime and anywhere and
also provide access to parents to monitor the
development of student learning in school.
(Farmington, Schoology 2014).
The features of schoology are as
follows:
Courses, which are facilities for making class subjects, such as
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and so on.
On the course there are several features to support learning, namely:
1. Assignments, which are used to collect tasks (upload files).
2. Tests / Quizzes, which are used to create or view available quizzes. In Tests
/ Quizzes there are several types of questions, namely multiple choice, right
wrong, matchmaking, short entries, and so on. For chemistry, physics and
especially mathematics teachers, they are very spoiled in making questions
in Schoology, which is equipped with Symbols, Equation, and Latex. So all
kinds of questions containing images, symbols, and equations can be
written in Schoolgy. The advantage of online questions that Schoolgy has is
that we don't need to check student work. And those questions (usually in
the form of assignments) can be done at home, the teacher can only
control them remotely.
3. Files / Links, which contains material in the form of files or towards certain
links.
4. Discussions, which are used for discussion places together in one course.
5. Albums, which is a collection of photos that have been uploaded.
6. Groups (groups), namely facilities for creating groups
7. Resources (Learning Resources)
The steps used to create accounts
and manage classes in Schoology
social media.
 For Teacher
1. Open the Schoology website. Click Sign Up
so that the Instructor and Student options
appear,
2. Select one, select instructor
Example:
3. Then complete the data yourself and click
register.
4. After you have finished registering, your account
as instructor / teacher is ready to use.
 For Students
1. Click sign up then click on student
At this stage you as a student will be asked
for an access code to enter the class that the
teacher has made, the access code can be
obtained at your respective teacher.
Example:
2. After filling in the access code then fill in your
data completely and click register.
3. After you register, your account has been
completed
Course / Class making process:
1. To make a class click "courses" which are on
the schoology dashboard
2. Then click creat
3. Fill in the class description, then click creat
4. Up to this point you have created a class, with
an access code located at the bottom left that
you can share with your students. In the class
that you have created you can give
assignments, quizzes, upload files, hold
discussions, add pages or upload photos by
clicking "add materials".
EXAMPLES:
The process of students entering
the class:
1. To access the class students first choose the
course then choose a class and enter the
access code.
2. After entering the access code, students can
access the assignment given by the teacher.
Example:
Giving assignments:
1. To provide assignments, you can use "add
materials" then select assignments
Here you can upload assignment files,
determine the type of assignment, determine
the collection deadline, and determine the
score for the assignment you are giving.
Answering assignments:
1. After the teacher uploads the task file, a notification will
appear on the student account. Then select "task" to see
the assignment given.
2. Tasks provided can be downloaded or read directly. To
download click "test.docx" and to read via online click "view“
3. If you select a view, the question will appear.
4. In addition to looking at students' assignments, they can also
immediately collect answers from assignments through
schoology by clicking submit assignment on the right
5. Here students can immediately upload the answer file to add
a comment then click submit.
6. If you feel there is an incorrect answer, students can correct
the answer by clicking "Re-submit assignment".
Strengths of Schoology:
1. Stay connected
Teachers can send updates to courses,
groups and private messages and provide
feedback to students, and organize events
with the Schoology intuitive interface on their
mobile devices.
2. Extend class time
Students can view lessons online,
collaborate with their colleagues and can
learn independently through their mobile
devices that can be done whenever and
wherever they want.
3. Manage on the go
Through Schoology teachers can easily
attend, make assignments, discuss, examine the
results of student homework and assess the
results of the work. In addition, through Schoology
teachers can provide feedback to students
through their mobile devices.
4. Leverage iOS and android devices
Schoology is a free mobile application that
can be downloaded from all mobile devices based
on iOS and Android. This application also has
notifications if there are updates (updates) or the
latest submissions from the application, so users
can easily update this application every time.
Lack of Schoology:
1. The internet is needed when accessing,
cannot be accessed offline
2. Home view that is less interactive so that the
first time you access it will be a little difficult
to recognize the features that are in
schoology.
3. Language settings that are less varied, do not
support Indonesian
4. The content on the mobile version is
incomplete
5. Lack of facilities for students, when compared
to facilities for teachers or teachers
