3. Choosing a Book
Here's one of the books from my search results. From
here I could click on the title to get more information,
or click on the icon under the cover image to see a
sample, add it to my wish list if I wanted to come back
to it later. I knew I wanted to read this book, so I clicked
on Add to My Bookbag. Be sure you choose the Kindle
book!
4. My Bookbag
I could continue searching and selecting titles, or just go
directly to my bookbag and proceed to Checkout.
5. Logging In
The system will ask me to log in at this point
(unless I were already logged in.)
6. Checking Out
The system lets me check out the book unless I already have
four books checked out.
8. Getting the Book in My Kindle Account
When I click on the Get for Kindle button on OverDrive, it takes me to my Kindle
account. It would make me log in if I hadn't already been logged in. Clicking on
the yellow button brings the book into my Kindle library, and delivers it to one of
my Kindle devices: my ebook reader or any of the devices with a Kindle app (my
phone, my laptop, my iPod Touch, etc.)
10. My Kindle Library
Here is my Kindle Library which includes all the books I have bought
from Kindle as well as my library loans.
11. Returning the Book
Books will return themselves on their due date, but you can also return
them early which frees them up for someone else and allows you to take
out more books

13. Amazon
Amazon has a help page called Public Library
Books for Kindle Books.
Amazon also hosts user help forums where
Kindle users discuss issues, answer questions,
share ideas, etc. There are also lots of Kindle
sites and ebook sites with helpful forums. This
is often the quickest way to get answers to
specific questions.
14. What if I Don’t Live in a NOBLE
Community?
• Check your own public library and/or its
library network – most have their own
OverDrive collections similar to ours.
• All residents of Massachusetts are entitled to
get free Boston Public Library cards and use
Boston’s OverDrive collection. (And you can
apply online for the card!)
15. Amazon Issues
• Once you leave OverDrive’s site, you are turning
your checkout over to Amazon where it is subject
to Amazon’s policies, not the library’s. They
retain information about what you’ve borrowed
after you return it including notes you take which
will be restored if you later borrow the book
again or buy it.
• They are a bookseller and hope borrowing leads
to buying the book from them.
• If you have privacy issues or other issues with
Amazon, Kindle may not be the best option for
you.
16. Why Don’t You Have This Book?
• It’s the authors and publishers who decide
what books to make available as ebooks or
audiobooks for libraries through OverDrive
and other vendors. Many popular books are
not available to us…at least not yet!
