INDIAN MARKET SCENARIO
The key business models in the India edtech market are the freemium
model, ad-based model, subscription-based model, and marketplace model.
Freemium Model:
The freemium model is among the most popular in the edtech
market. In the freemium model, a basic version of the product is
made available to consumers for free, while more advanced features
are available through an upgrade that comes at a subscription cost
or a one-off charge.
Ad-Based Model:
Edtech players reliant on the ad-based model are generating
revenues by making their product or platform freely available to
consumers and monetizing through the ad space on it. The
greatest advantage of this model is that the growth of the user
base is not inhibited by potential purchasing costs for
consumers, as seen in other models. However, ad monetization
could also jeopardize the success of the product by disrupting
the user experience. It is also possible to offer the option of an
ad-free experience for a small charge.
INDIAN MARKET SCENARIO
Subscription-Based Model:
The subscription-based model refers to the traditional model of
charging customers regularly or a one-off fee. Usually, subscription-
based models are appropriate for B2B edtech companies, unlike
freemium or ad-based models which are more suitable for individual
customers. This business model offers predictable and stable income
for players, while charges can be tailored to the level of usage.
Marketplace Model:
In the marketplace model, players serve as intermediaries
connecting students or companies with tutors/instructors
through a portal or app. In this model, players are less
responsible for creating content, and that simplifies operations
for start-ups, which might not be able to produce content at
scale. These players benefit from taking a share of revenue
generated by the transaction of buyers and sellers of edtech.
INDIAN EDTECH MARKET –
COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE
The edtech competitive landscape is fragmented, with many players
based on various business models competing across different
segments.
Think and Learn (Byju’s) -
Eruditus Education (Unacademy)
Embibe
Vedantu Innovations
These are the leading players in the Indian edtech market.
PORTER’S 5 FORCES
ANALYSIS
● Determinants of Supplier Power: Teachers and Infrastructure
● Determinants of Buyer Power: Students and Fresh Employees
● Determinants of Competitive Rivalry: Byju’s, Udemy, Unacademy, etc.
● Threat of Substitution : Degrees and Certification
● Threat of New Entry: Always a possibility
POSITIONING AND

These players benefit from taking a share of revenue generated by the transaction of buyers and sellers of edtech.

  1. Improving student outcomes: We want to improve student outcomes by providing personalized learning experiences that help them learn faster and more efficiently. We aim to achieve this by leveraging AI to analyze student data, identify knowledge gaps, and provide targeted learning materials. Enhancing teacher effectiveness: We believe that teachers play a critical role in student success. Therefore, we aim to provide them with the tools and resources they need to be more effective educators. We plan to achieve this by developing AI-based tools that can help teachers monitor student progress, identify areas of weakness, and provide targeted feedback. Increasing access to education: We understand that many students face barriers to accessing quality education. To address this, we plan to make our platform accessible to as many students as possible, regardless of their geographic location or socioeconomic status. Fostering a culture of lifelong learning: We believe that education should be a lifelong pursuit, and we aim to create a platform that supports continuous learning and development. We plan to achieve this by providing a range of courses and programs that cater to learners of all ages and backgrounds.
  2. College and university students: Our platform also caters to college and university students, providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed in their academic pursuits. Educators and teachers: Our AI-based tools and resources are designed to enhance the effectiveness of teachers and educators, enabling them to provide targeted feedback and monitor student progress more effectively. Educational institutions: Our platform is suitable for a range of educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, who are interested in adopting AI-based technologies to enhance student learning outcomes. Lifelong learners: Our platform also caters to individuals who are interested in continuing their education and lifelong learning, providing them with a range of courses and programs that cater to learners of all ages and backgrounds.
  3. Natural Language Processing (NLP): NLP enables machines to understand, interpret, and generate human language. We would use NLP to develop chatbots and voice assistants that can interact with students and provide them with instant feedback. Machine Learning (ML): ML algorithms can help us analyze student data and identify patterns and insights that can inform our platform's personalized learning paths. We would use ML algorithms to develop recommendation engines, predictive models, and other intelligent features. Deep Learning (DL): DL is a subset of ML that involves training neural networks to perform complex tasks. We would use DL algorithms to develop computer vision systems that can analyze visual data, such as images and videos, to provide students with visual feedback. Reinforcement Learning (RL): RL is a type of ML that involves training agents to make decisions based on rewards and penalties. We would use RL algorithms to develop intelligent tutoring systems that can adapt to each student's learning style and pace. Data Analytics: We would leverage data analytics tools to collect, store, and analyze student data, such as learning outcomes, engagement levels, and behavior patterns. This data would inform our platform's personalized learning paths and help us continuously improve our platform.
  4. Identify the data that needs to be collected: You will need to identify the data that needs to be collected for PSS academy. This data may include student data, teacher data, course data, enrollment data, and other relevant data. Determine the data sources: You will need to determine where the data will come from. The data sources may include internal data sources such as the PSS academy website and learning management system (LMS), as well as external data sources such as social media platforms and online education marketplaces. Choose data collection methods: You will need to choose the methods for collecting data. The methods may include surveys, questionnaires, interviews, and online forms. Develop data management processes: You will need to develop processes for storing, managing, and analyzing the data. This may include creating a database, data warehouse, or data lake, as well as implementing data cleaning, transformation, and analysis procedures. Implement data security measures: You will need to implement data security measures to protect the data from unauthorized access or use. This may include encrypting the data, implementing access controls, and using secure data storage methods. Use AI for data analysis: You can use AI to analyze the data and extract insights that can be used to improve the PSS academy's offerings. This may include using machine learning algorithms to predict student performance, identify learning gaps, and personalize learning experiences. Continuously improve the infrastructure: Finally, you will need to continuously improve the infrastructure to ensure that it meets the evolving needs of PSS academy. This may include adding new data sources, improving data quality, and updating the AI algorithms used for analysis.
  5. Personalized learning: Use AI algorithms to analyze student data and personalize the learning experience for each student. This could include recommending content, identifying learning gaps, and adapting the pace and difficulty of the course to each student's abilities. Intelligent tutoring: Develop AI-powered virtual tutors that can provide individualized feedback to students based on their responses to exercises and assessments. These virtual tutors could use natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning algorithms to understand students' questions and provide accurate and helpful answers. Predictive analytics: Use AI algorithms to analyze student data and predict their performance on assessments. This could help identify students who are at risk of falling behind and allow PSS academy to provide targeted support and interventions to improve their outcomes. Automated grading: Develop AI-powered systems that can automatically grade student work, such as essays and programming assignments. This could save time for instructors and provide more objective and consistent grading for students. Content creation: Use AI-powered tools to create interactive and engaging learning materials, such as quizzes, videos, and simulations. These tools could use NLP and computer vision to generate content from existing materials or create new content from scratch. Chatbots and virtual assistants: Develop AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants that can answer student questions, provide guidance, and help them navigate the learning environment. These chatbots could use NLP and machine learning algorithms to understand students' needs and provide personalized support. Gamification: Use AI algorithms to develop gamified learning experiences that motivate and engage students. These experiences could use reinforcement learning algorithms to adapt to each student's preferences and abilities.
  6. Define the Target Audience: The first step in launching any startup is to define the target audience.
