Welcome to Presentation on
Automation with PLC - SCADA
 It is delegation of human control
functions to technical equipments for
increasing productivity , quality and
increase the safety in working
condition.
 Automation plays an important role in
global economy and daily experience.
PLC ( Programmable logic
controller)
SCADA (Supervisory control and
data acquisition)
HMI( Human machine interface)
DCS (distributed control system)
4
PLC ( Programmable logic controllers)
PLC is an electronic device which interface
between input and output with using software.
It is an example of real time system.
It is microprocessor based industrial computer
that perform discrete or sequential logic
 IN 1968 , a group of engineers from general motors
developed the concept of plc
MODICON is the first plc.
DICK MORLEY, who worked in MODICON is
considered to be the “ father “ of the plc.
PLC’S were designed to replace relay logic
system.

 Act as interface between real-time status
of process variable and the CPU.
 Switches
 pushbuttons
 Relays
 sensors
RTD (Ohm)
 Thermocouple
• Act as link between the CPU and
the output devices in the field.

PLC SIZE :
1. SMALL - it covers units with up to 128 I/O’s and
memories up to 2 Kbytes.
2. MEDIUM - have up to 2048 I/O’s and memories up
to 32 Kbytes.
3. LARGE - They have up to 8192 I/O’s and
memories up to 750 Kbytes.
- can control individual production
processes or entire plant.

INPUT SYMBOL
Normally Open
(NO)
Normally Closed
(NC)
Power flows through these contacts when they are
closed. The normally open (NO) is true when the input or
output status bit controlling the contact is 1.The normally
closed (NC) is true when the input or output status bit
controlling the contact is 0.

SCADA : SUPERVISORY CONTROL
AND DATA ACQUISITION
 SCADA is a type of industrial control system used to collect data
from
remote location for exercising control.
S: Supervisory (we can see process on the monitor)
operator/s, supervisor/s .
C: Control (when setup is complete we can also control the
process)
A: And
D: Data ( save data and reports of present and past state )
A: Acquisition
Alarms
Security
Device Connectivity
 Dynamic Process Graphics
 Real Time & Historical Trends
 Recipe Management

 Water Distribution
 water treatment
 Pump stations
 Traffic signals
 Fire alarms
 Chemical Petroleum plants
 Aerospace
 Bottling and canning and many
