2. Awareness A student needs to be aware of what the term social justice means. Being aware of their place in the world and how they can affect the world around them is a great unit to teach. We need to allow students to understand how much their actions can do. Students and teachers need to work together to create a classroom environment in which teachers can actualize the above practices and in which both students and teacher can raise questions, challenges, differences, and problems while conducting political analyses of society.”- Gustein

3. Power “Social movements attempt to shift power from power holders toward the movement’s constituent base.” Sleeter Every child has the ability to make a change. We must take a hold of the power we all hold to think differently, to take a step in a different direction. “Along the way they change the way they define themselves in relation to the world and their actions on it.”- Gustein

Multicultural Education “viewing multicultural education as a social movement suggests that effort must be expended to cultivate support among segments of the broader public that are unaware of, or indifferent to, multicultural.”- Sleeter “..deepens their understanding of society which leads to engagement in social movements, at whatever level people are capable of participating given the daily struggles for survival.” - Gustein

5. Curriculum At first glance it seems as if it’s an educational setting that spits out facts about different cultures. After reading, it’s a necessary curriculum to make students aware of injustices in the world so they can be aware. Awareness is the first step to making a change.
